The Observer levels a provacative charge against American museums. American Museums Have New Missions. Have Their Operations Caught Up? They assert that while most museums center the public in their mission statements, many don't follow through in practice. That shift from object-focused to public-focused represents one of the most radical transformations of any group of public institutions in the last 50 years. Remuseum, an independent research project, has now started documenting these disparities, or “aspiration gaps,” between what museums say they want to offer and what they have been built to provide. https://lnkd.in/diYyBnxB

As someone in the adjacent archives sector, I am looking forward to today's Museums Association event: All Inclusive: Championing Accessible Museums "Ableism – prioritising the needs of non-disabled people over disabled people – remains pervasive across the museum sector. Disabled people still face barriers in our buildings, policies and structures, and are chronically unrepresented in our workforce and collections. All Inclusive is our annual one-day conference exploring how museums can become anti-ableist in everything that they do. Anti-ableism recognises abled privilege and actively looks to challenge and dismantle it through theory, actions and practices."

Appraisers often rely on private sales data from dealers, highlighting the crucial role art dealers play in the art market. 🎨🌍 Dive into the pivotal role of art dealers in shaping the transatlantic art market from the late 19th to early 20th centuries! In an often overlooked perspective of the art market's history this new publication, "Money in the Air: Art Dealers and the Making of a Transatlantic Market, 1880–1930," shows how these figures not only influenced art collections but also significantly impacted the foundations of major American art museums. #ArtHistory #ArtMarket #ArtDealers
Congrats to editors Gail Feigenbaum, Sandra van Ginhoven, and Edward Sterrett, on the publication of “Money in the Air: Art Dealers and the Making of a Transatlantic Market, 1880–1930”. This volume explores the often-overlooked role of art dealers in creating a transatlantic art market in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It offers new perspectives on the development of art collections that formed the core of American art museums, such as the National Gallery of Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Frick Collection. #ArtHistory #Scholarship #Collecting

We created a wisdom hotline for Citizens like you to share your wisdom on how to live in the 21st century and beyond. We are collecting wisdom now and will be deploying it in the future. Think wisdom time capsule. Call the number below and leave your wisdom for future Seekers to hear.
We had hundreds of people play the Treasure Hunt the first weekend of may. It was great how fast some people solved clues and got to the locations. Sometimes in less than 10 minutes. We also had a blast partnering with MoMa to bring people into the museum for free museum day. It feels good to do good in your community and meet so many interesting people. Next up: a hotline for citizens to give wisdom to one another.
