The Bethel Trust Port Talbot, founded in 2014, is a charity dedicated to alleviating poverty in one of Wales’ most deprived areas. Its Bethel Baby Bank provides essential items such as formula, nappies, and clothing to families in need, focusing on marginalised groups and domestic violence survivors. Beyond material aid, it offers a supportive environment where parents can connect, receive emotional support, and access referrals to partner organisations. John Good Group | Growing Businesses Together have awarded them a £5,000 grant from their Grants for Good fund to enhance the Baby Bank’s services, helping to establishing a private room for confidential conversations, securing safe storage for donations, and purchasing essential items such as formula and nappies. Charity—whether through money, food, clothing, or toys—is a vital practice that we should make a regular part of our lives. In Islam, even a simple smile is considered an act of charity. It’s inspiring to see people dedicate their time and effort to something spiritually enriching while supporting those in need. Here are some key takeaways about charity and its significance in Islam. Charity helps alleviate poverty, reduce inequality, and strengthen bonds within the community, fostering a sense of mutual care and responsibility. Islam emphasizes that acts of charity, big or small, are significant in the eyes of Allah, as I said above even a smile can count as charity. In fact , Zakat(charity) is one of the Five Pillars of Islam, requiring Muslims to give a fixed percentage (usually 2.5%) of their wealth annually to help the needy, support social welfare, and promote economic balance. Charity is considered a way to purify one’s wealth and soul, reduce greed, and earn Allah’s blessings and forgiveness. The Qur’an and Hadith frequently promise immense rewards for those who give generously. Ultimately, charity benefits both the giver and the receiver, serving as a powerful means to foster a more just, fair, and compassionate society.
With Christmas fast approaching, I felt inspired to give back to the community in a meaningful way. I therefore personally took the lead in organising Christmas pamper boxes for women and children in refuge at Pennine Domestic Abuse Partnership (PDAP). This involved planning, coordinating donations, and working closely with Deborah from PDAP to ensure we could make a real impact for their clients in need. Our Family Department already work very closely with PDAP who are a key provider of domestic abuse services in Kirklees so it was incredibly rewarding to hear how much this will mean to the families at the refuge. Also, many thanks to the two offices that donated, we successfully gathered enough donations to fill four boxes!

Volunteers from VINCI Building UK's project team delivering the transformational regeneration of St Helens town centre have worked together to support The Standing Tall Foundation, a local charity which is providing Christmas gifts and toys for the most vulnerable families in the borough. An event held in a marquee at the Living Well Building saw more than 60 volunteers from a wide range of companies help wrap, pack and deliver over 2000 presents. These were distributed amongst 50 local schools identified as having pupils with the greatest need as well as homeless families, ensuring the most vulnerable children have something to open on Christmas day. #socialvalue #communitesmatter #humility #teamspirit

Earlier this week, around 80 delegates from local authorities, charities, and the public and private sector gathered in Derby to discuss homelessness in the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA) region. Delegates received an update on EMCCA's work to research and gain a comprehensive understanding of homelessness in the region. This work has involved engaging with key stakeholders, covering all aspects of homelessness across all sectors. The roundtable, attended by Mayor of the East Midlands, Claire Ward, highlighted the challenges and issues people are facing in our region, illustrated by stories of lived experience. Discussions built a strong consensus around the role EMCCA could play in leading a holistic strategy to make a long term positive impact. Read more on our website: https://lnkd.in/eFArEnMu

Folks- Your periodic #DisasterResponse reminder to please put the word out to your well-meaning loved ones and networks that CASH IS KING when it comes to how you can help, be it #LAwildfires or #HeleneRelief or any disaster. Your trash, or even items you *think* are helpful, actually create a logistical burden/nightmare. Your trash is NOT someone (in need)'s treasure! Good options include: Team Rubicon - American Red Cross - World Central Kitchen - Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation #SendCashNotTrash #DisasterManagement #DisasterRelief
To meaningfully support victims of the #LAFires, now is the time to donate MONEY to your favorite local charity. Do not clean out your closet, send a teddy bear, or setup a supply drive at this time. Cash fuels smart, real-time decisions and doesn't add to the chaos of an already immense tragedy. That time will come. Consider donating to Team Rubicon or signing up to #volunteer. It Takes TWO
We recently carried out a deep clean on the floors at CISCA House, which is a drop-in day centre on Canvey Island that provides a safe and supportive space for people aged over 55. We have been servicing CISCA House for a number of years and take great pride in delivering support to such an important facility for the local community. Our work was incredibly well received - here's what the charity's joint chairpersons had to say: "I wanted to say how impressed we are by the standard of the cleaning/polishing of our main hall floor on Saturday and the two young men who did the job were exemplary." #floorcleaning #commercialcleaning
