One of our mentees who got into Deloitte had an unconventional case interview. And the only reason she was able to tackle the case was that she had practiced a wide variety of cases problems in mock practice. The reason this is important is that some consulting aspirants find their comfort zone in certain types of case problems. It can be profitability, market entry, or pricing. And then practice only those types of cases. But consulting interviews are as random as it gets. It’s better to get a reality check and improve in front of your case partner than the interviewer. For you to do that, I am sharing a case problem with you below, it's a little different than typical cases. Read the problem statement, see how you would go about it, and then go through my approach. Westpac Personal Loans | I help young managers become leaders by sharing my insights from 20+ years of experience
It took me two and a half years and 18 interviews. But I finally landed my role at the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) in 2010. Here's how: 1. Start with Structure Every answer needs a clear framework. 2. Adapt to Each Office Interview standards vary. Know the expectations. 3. Never Freeze Keep talking, even if you're unsure. 4. Practice Weak Areas Identify and drill your weaknesses until flawless. 5. Think Before You Speak Take a moment to gather your thoughts. First Attempt: BCG Kuala Lumpur Four interviews. Final round with partners. No offer. Learned key lessons. Second Attempt: Bain & Company Twelve interviews. Final round. No offer. Doubts crept in. Third Attempt: BCG Sydney Six interviews. Over 100 case studies practiced. Finally got the call. Persistence Pays Off Setbacks are part of the journey. Keep pushing. The third time really can be the charm. 📝 Subscribe to my newsletter to become a better leader: https://empoweredleader.co
