Councillor Cerro: "On March 19th, the Cisternese exodus, an event of historical and cultural significance. I propose considering this commemoration also from an #economic and commercial perspective, strengthening the bond between #Cisterna and the #twinned city #FortSmith." Strengthening the twinning with #FortSmith in the #UnitedStates and developing a commercial network with the United States are central objectives that we intend to pursue, fully exploiting the existing historical connection. Cisterna, with its significant potential as an #industrial and #commercial #hub, could benefit even more from this partnership. The heroic figure of #Sergeant #Antholak, who sacrificed his life for our liberation, constitutes a fundamental point of connection. However, beyond this tragic episode, many other elements unite us, such as the export of distinctive products like Cisterna's #Kiwi, reaching the United States and other global markets. Renowned brands like #Findus and #Gelit, headquartered in Cisterna, have been exporting successfully to the #USA for years. It is crucial to further intensify this historical and commercial bond. Past administrations, led by Gianni Salis during the twinning with Fort Smith, and the current Administration, led by Mayor Mantini, where I hold the position of councillor in charge of industrial development, share the same determination. The story of Sergeant Antholak and all those who sacrificed their lives in Cisterna during World War II can now represent a strong element of unity. Soon, on March 19th, we will celebrate the Cisternese exodus, an event of historical and cultural significance. I propose considering this commemoration also from an economic and commercial perspective, strengthening the ties between our artisanal and industrial hub and the United States, particularly with Fort Smith. We must invest in our #international #relationships, supporting businesses in their processes of internationalization. To this end, it is essential to consider access to dedicated grants and funding that can facilitate and support this path.

Clan tartans are patterns associated with Scottish kinship and identify many Scottish families and their ancestors. They have been an iconic symbol of Scottish culture and kinship tracing its roots to at least the 16th century. There are over 3000 known tartan designs which showcase the diversity of patterns across Scotland. The earliest records of tartan date back to the late 16th century when orders were placed for large pieces of tartan cloth for kilts or plaids in specific clan colours and patterns. Over time certain patterns became attached to particular families or geographical regions. Tartan became an important symbol of Highland culture and clan allegiance. After the defeat of Scottish rebellions in 1745, the British government passed laws in 1747 banning tartan and other aspects of Gaelic culture as a way to undermine the clan system. Brigid's Day | Lá Fhéile Bríde For just over a year now, I have felt Brigid's knock on the door; she has crossed the threshold from her world into mine in many ways. My middle name is Brigid, so I feel Brigid-centred. I was born on the 9th of February, not long after her feast day. I come from a long line of Brigid's. My maternal grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother are and were all Brigid's, to name but a few connections. When my mother passed away in January last year, there was just one thing that I wanted of hers, and that was her St Brigid’s Cross. I didn't know why at the time, but I can engage in its symbolism now. The celebration of Brigid's Day as a national holiday in Ireland underscores the significance of embracing change and transition. Brigid embodies the duality of many spiritual traditions and symbolises the threshold, the space between two opposites. Participating in this liminal space, perhaps through deeper exploration of ourselves, through intuitive practices, invoking Imbas, active imagination, dream analysis, and communing with nature could help initiate this, allowing us to gain self-awareness and a deeper understanding of humanity and the other-than-human world. Through arts and culture, we can explore thresholds and gain insights into our emotions and experiences to navigate transformation and change. However, contemporary Irish society faces challenges, such as a lack of meaningful rites of passage, a loss of connection with our inner selves, hustle culture, and environmental apathy. Addressing these issues by promoting structured rituals and preserving natural rhythms can lead to a more sustainable and fulfilling future. We can create a more harmonious and thriving society by recognising the importance of embracing transition and change while preserving cultural traditions.
