In recent years, the incidence of invasive #fungal infections (IFIs) has been increasing year by year, and their diagnosis and treatment are still facing big challenges, and early diagnosis and precise treatment are crucial to the prognosis of IFIs. #Candidaemia is the most common clinical type of invasive candidiasis, and blood culture is currently the gold standard for diagnosing candidaemia, but the low sensitivity and time-consuming nature of blood culture makes the diagnosis less effective. The G test is a pan-fungal assay that determines the amount of fungal (1-3)-β-D glucan (#BDG) in human serum, and two consecutive positive serum G tests can be used as the clinical diagnosis of invasive candidiasis. Microbiological basis.

Antibiotic Series No. 4: Empirical Use of Antibiotics Based on Disease In urgent cases, antibiotics are often prescribed before lab results are available. Empirical therapy relies on disease patterns and patient factors to choose the best treatment. In this post, I'll cover the key principles for selecting the right antibiotic and minimizing resistance risks.

Rapid Diagnostic Testing Decreases Broad Spectrum Antibiotic Use in Bloodstream Infections One of the lynchpins to effective Antimicrobial Stewardship Programs (ASP), which is typically implemented to reduce unnecessary antibiotic usage, is effective diagnostic testing. A recent study from the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center shows the power of PCR to reduce broad-spectrum antibiotic use, particularly in the management of Strep bacteremia. Researchers found that using PCR reduced the duration of broad-spectrum therapy by an average of 46 hours. Study investigator Tyler Tate, MD, notes “With those results, we were able to narrow therapy sooner than we would with traditional identification methods." #pcr #pcrtesting #pcrindustrynews #AntibioticStewardship #RapidDiagnostics #InfectiousDiseases #Sepsis #PCRResearch News Source: Contagion Live - https://hubs.li/Q02S580r0

📢Clostridium difficile is a serious bacterium that causes severe diarrhea, inflammation of the colon and other dangerous #gastrointestinal complications. The Clostridium difficile GDH +Toxin A +Toxin B Combo Rapid Test is a comprehensive diagnostic tool that simultaneously detects the presence of Clostridium difficile GDH antigen, Toxin A and Toxin B antigens in human fecal specimen. The rapid testing capability allows for prompt #diagnosis and faster initiation of appropriate #treatment. The ability to test for multiple pathogens in a single test streamlines the diagnostic process, which expedites clinical decision-making by providing a more comprehensive assessment efficiently. 🔎https://lnkd.in/gqX35mrK #ClostridiumDifficile #Diarrhea #RapidDiagnosticTest #Detection #Diagnosis #ClinicalDecision #AccurateResults 💯 #AllTest #MedicalDevices #IVD #POCT

The Following Make Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy Safe Autologous Source PRP uses a patient's own blood, minimizing the risk of allergic reactions or transmission of infectious diseases that can occur with foreign substances or donor tissue. Minimally Manipulative Process The preparation of PRP involves a relatively simple process of drawing a patient's blood & separating the platelets through centrifugation to concentrate them into plasma. This minimizes the chance of contamination or errors during preparation. Reduced Risk of Rejection Because PRP comes from the patient's own blood, the body is less likely to reject the injected material. Emerging Evidence for Safety A growing body of research suggests that PRP is safe and well-tolerated in various clinical applications. However, it's important to note that more extensive studies are needed to definitively determine its long-term safety and efficacy for all conditions. AI in ER: Use Case #6 👨🏻💻 AI-Powered Decision Support: Optimizing Antibiotic Stewardship 👨🏻💻 The overprescription of antibiotics in the ED is a critical issue leading to antibiotic resistance. Clinicians require assistance in making evidence-based prescribing decisions. When a patient shows symptoms of a urinary tract infection, an AI system examines local resistance patterns, patient history, and current guidelines to suggest the most effective antibiotic. This targeted approach is vital in combating antibiotic resistance and elevating care quality. A paper by Amin et al. (2023) underscores how AI decision support systems have enhanced appropriate antibiotic prescribing practices. 🔬 Amin, D., Garzόn-Orjuela, N., Garcia Pereira, A., Parveen, S., Vornhagen, H., & Vellinga, A. (2023). Artificial intelligence to improve antibiotic prescribing: a systematic review. Antimicrobial resistance is one of the biggest global health challenges of our time. Here is a powerful opportunity for us to take action! 🛡️Backbone of Modern Medicine: Antimicrobials enable us to perform surgery, give patients chemotherapy, and treat dangerous infectious diseases such as tuberculosis, sepsis, and meningitis. 🔬Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR): Over time, microbes develop resistance, rendering treatments ineffective, posing a grave threat to global health. AMR causes over 2.8 million infections, 35,000 deaths and 55 billion dollars in economic losses each year in the US alone. 💰Market Challenges: Current market incentives fail to stimulate new drug development, leaving us vulnerable to resistant infections. 🔑PASTEUR Act: A bipartisan solution gaining momentum in Congress, promising manufacturers a guaranteed revenues to incentivize antimicrobial R&D. An analysis from the Center for Global Development estimated that over a 30-year time horizon, this policy could save over 383,000 lives in the US alone and have an return on investment of almost 28:1. 📝 Take Action: Join the fight against AMR by encouraging your representative to sign a letter supporting the PASTEUR Act by using this online action alert provided by IDSA: https://lnkd.in/gftHj7Ea Together, let's tackle AMR and safeguard the effectiveness of antimicrobials for future generations! #AMR #PASTEURAct
