#photogate - How not to do PR?
I wasn't really following this story, but then I met up with one of my best friends a few weeks ago and she was telling me all the gossip from the staffroom (she's a teacher) - where is K-Mid?
No statement, No statement.
Then mothers day - bing, a photo comes up.
The next day, the photo is 'KILLED'. Bing bing, there is a statement - “Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing”
The fall out is everywhere.
This is a classic how not to do PR moment.
If you hide, pretend or falsify - you will get caught out, creating a spin doesn't kill the story, it just add fuel. What they should have done is been frank from the start, X is out for X months because of X operation to build back strength, X hopes to return to public life in Summer 24 (always put a season over a date!).
It's the arrogance of the whole thing that is creating speculation - and lessons can be applied to all situations and all people - not just Royals. And yes, there are ways to share the cards, that don't over expose the weaknesses - that is the art.
In Crisis - 1. Identify the issue/s 2. Address the now - what's being done, what's next, 3. Share a 'season' to update
