🌟 Last week, I had the honor of receiving the first Unite! Award from Unite! President Tanja Brühl, during the X Unite! Dialogue in #Darmstadt. I would like to thank Unite! - University Network for Innovation, Technology and Engineering for this recognition, and extend my heartfelt gratitude to Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya for giving me the opportunity to contribute to the enhancement of research, innovation, and education across Europe. A special thanks to my incredible team for their enthusiasm in addressing the needs of those eager to innovate. As Tanja said during the ceremony: "Jesus played a key role in the design, conceptualisation, and creation of shared digital infrastructure, including the Metacampus and Agora, and they are crucial for enabling many activities within Unite!. His user-focused approach was most helpful to prioritise action, but most of all, his ability and his passion for fostering true teamwork turns vision into practical reality and transforms the European Universities initiative from an idea to complete action." As someone who typically works behind the scenes, this award allows me to spotlight the #Agoras we're developing for university alliances under the aUPaEU project. I firmly believe these #Agoras hold great potential to foster research collaboration, especially among higher education institutions (HEIs). They are particularly valuable in regions needing rapid digital transformation, where collaboration can drive innovation more effectively. My experience shows that this tool is already proving useful for institutions aiming to enhance their research and innovation efforts. The journey ahead won’t be easy—we will encounter challenges along the way—but I am confident we will achieve our goals. This award reassures us that we are on the right path. 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫 — 𝐅𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐅𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐞 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬 Solving the world’s most complex challenges—ensuring progress benefits everyone without sacrificing the freedom of many for the wellbeing of a few—demands courage, integrity, and importantly, diverse perspectives. This is why diversity in science truly matters. Diversity means embracing people of all genders, socio-economic backgrounds, ethnicities, religions, and trajectories. These differences enrich our questions, shape our approaches, and broaden the problems we dare to solve. In October 2024, eight men and just one woman received Nobel Prizes in science. As a female scientist, I was stunned by this glaring disparity—especially in fields where women have made transformative contributions. Such imbalances in high-profile awards perpetuate unconscious biases, limiting visibility and empowerment for women in science. While I can’t change the Nobel process overnight, I’m thrilled to launch an  🌟𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫 𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐟𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐞 𝐬𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬. 🌟 This calendar isn’t a list of the 'most' fantastic female scientists. It’s a personal selection shaped by the people I’ve met and the places I’ve been. These women represent the diversity of what “fantastic” and “inspiring” mean to me. To my daughter Agnès, my son Jules and all dreamers of a more respectful and inclusive society, this is an invitation to open your eyes and listen to the whispers of your heart. They carry the stories of remarkable women who paved the way, ensuring that you—and so many others—can dream big and shape a more humanist world. Conference participation of GEiO Team Iceland Recently, three Icelandic members of the GeiO research team: Katrín Ólafsdóttir, Gyða Margrét Pétursdóttir and Annadís Greta Rúdólfsdóttir have presented first results of the GeiO project at Þjóðarspegillinn, the Icelandic Social Science conference. They presented on “Participant benefits in research: examples from a study on online meeting culture”. They discussed how Ingroup Forums conducted for the GeiO project enhance participant engagement and improve workplace culture. During those Ingroup Forums, participants can discuss the results presented with each other. Katrín, Gyða Margrét and Annadís found that participants in Iceland are happy to be involved in improving workplaces when their voices are heard. Through conducting the Ingroup Forums their understanding of the data was deepened and therefore contributed to more concise suggestions for improvement of online meeting culture.

✨ Kicking off 2025 with a reflection on how my research perspective evolved throughout 2024. At the start of 2024, I had the privilege of attending the Global Young Scientists Summit (#GYSS2024) as an A*STAR - Agency for Science, Technology and Research nominee. Listening to Nobel Laureates and renowned field specialists, while connecting with so many like-minded young scientists, created the perfect environment to reflect on my research journey. Throughout 2024, the stories shared subconsciously shaped the way I approached experiments and interpreted results. When National Research Foundation Singapore invited me to share how #GYSS2024 had transformed my research journey, I took time to reflect on the essence of this change.💡 Previously, I was often fixated on having my experimental results align with my hypotheses. After listening to the Nobel Prize Laureates, I realized that anomalies are trying to reveal secrets. By exploring these secrets, I uncovered so much more.🔑 To #GYSS2025 participants, do hear the entire story rather than focusing on the technical complexities. Yesterday, Barcelona Global unveiled the conclusions of its Life Sciences Chapter, a year-long initiative aimed at positioning Barcelona as an international leader in the sector. During the event, celebrated at CosmoCaixa, Josep Tabernero MD, PhD, Chair of the Internal Scientific Committee at CaixaResearch Institute, presented the institute as a new research centre set to become a beacon of innovation in life sciences. Alongside Dr. Tabernero, over 125 representatives of the main agents in the field contributed to outlining the key measures required to strengthen Barcelona’s life sciences ecosystem by: 1️⃣ Establishing a public-private fund of €50–100M to support early-stage projects. 2️⃣ Enhancing infrastructure planning to meet the sector's rapid growth needs. 3️⃣ Creating a centralised data platform to facilitate secure sharing and collaboration. 4️⃣ Launching specialised training programmes to attract and retain top talent. 5️⃣ Developing a global ambassador network to elevate the "Life Sciences Barcelona" brand.
