In the control condition, pairs of subjects play an indefinitely repeated Prisoner’s Dilemma game without external competition. In the treatment, two pairs compete against each other. No monetary rewards are tied to winning, isolating the bare impact of competition. In the treatment, cooperation increases by 16 percentage points. Strategies estimation shows a shift from selfish strategies (Always Defect) to cooperative ones (Grim Trigger). A theoretical model provides a rationale for the experimental results. 🔗 Download the paper here 👇 https://lnkd.in/d8W6tY4K

Call For Papers! JCSWB is Open Access, which means there are no barriers to your published research: all content is freely available, which can lead to increased citation rates and greater dissemination of information. If you have a manuscript you are ready to submit, begin on our website here: https://lnkd.in/gS6-Xnaa And don’t forget, while JCSWB is always accepting new manuscripts, right now there is a special call for papers that provide critical analysis that explores the depths of understanding why and when multi-sector collaboration thrives and what can be done wherever it fails to occur. At the Review of International Studies we are keen to find ways to make submitting less arduous for our authors. In the last year we have introduced two steps to make the process easier: we’ve removed the requirement for place of publication in reference lists, and we’ve shifted to format-free submissions for new manuscripts. These decisions are meant to lower the barrier to submitting to our journal and will hopefully encourage more new authors to send their work in! I am grateful to share that our article (co-authored with Ahmad Almaarif), "Considering context in information systems research: Understanding the conditions of developing country scholarship," has been recognized as one of the top-cited articles by Wiley in the Electronic Journal of Information Systems in Developing Countries. It underscores the importance of contextual understanding in IS research. The discussion can be accessed at https://lnkd.in/gSvmhCrn. #ResearchRecognition #InformationSystems #ContextMatters

Qualitative studies are often context-bound to single sites, but what happens if we need to include more than one site to strengthen transferability? How philosophically/ methodologically congruent will this be with the traditional qualitative methodologies? Pushing the boundaries further, our recent methodological paper argues that rather than merely a method, the multi-centre qualitative design can be a distinct methodology within the broader qualitative research tradition. How so? Its pragmatic nature, focus on the world as "experienced and perceived", and methodical flexibility set it apart. Full-text version here (open access): https://lnkd.in/g9h3U2f4

📜 As conducting a thorough peer review can be an overlooked activity within academia, I can only commend the Switzerland-based MDPI-published journal "Societies" for its practice of handing out certificates to its reviewers. It is certainly a good example to follow.

Two articles I co-authored have recently been published in NZSR (New Zealand Science Review, https://lnkd.in/g5zX7x52 ). (1) "The destruction of Sciences at Massey University and why we need an independent entity that can investigate universities", co-authored with Prof Troy Baisden, https://lnkd.in/gbcuxSSp . The article summarises the events that led to the dismantling of the School of Natural and Computational Sciences at Massey University, Albany campus, and the unsuccessful attempts to preserve the school in some form by staff, the public and various learned societies including the New Zealand Association of Scientists (NZAS). We argue that what happened at Massey University can happen at any other university in New Zealand, putting our national science infrastructure and capabilities at risk. (2) "The impact on NZ university academic staffing over the pandemic years", co-authored with Dr Kate Lee, https://lnkd.in/gXGjQfFS . The article compares academic staff numbers on 1st May 2019 and 1st May 2023, capturing data before and after Covid-19 lockdowns. New Zealand universities were affected differently over this period, with some gaining staff and some losing staff overall. A common area of growth in all our universities was health but this was accompanied by decreased staff numbers in other subjects such as humanities, law, business, and education as well as fundamental sciences and engineering. The data does not include academic job losses that happened since May 2023.
