There is no such thing as high standards. Or low standards. Only standards that align with the outcome. When I owned my screen printing shop I had workers that could not keep up to my level of detail, care, and efficiency. I printed at a higher level than any of them could. I was told “your standards are too high”. And I thought that for many years. Then at my friend’s gym I observed Olympic and nationally qualified athletes. I saw how often, diligent, hard, intentional they trained. I witnessed restaurant staff achieve excellence in unreasonable hospitality and earn Michelin stars. I learned about teams accomplishing extraordinary tasks such as developing a reusable rocket and having 376 successful launches. I realized that standards and environment must follow the goal. If those are met, then an outcome can be achieved. With my current company, Tact Firm, my standards are the core of what we do and the basis of how I hire. I seek people that consider my standards as… standard. Because they agree that is what it takes. You can’t achieve an excellent outcome without excellent standards. I just hired 4 new excellent individuals to my team. 2 marketers, a designer, and a data analyst. They’re joining our team of 8 other marketing mavens, data nerds, and operations experts. The team is everything and we’ll only continue to raise the bar.
