New FAN Resource: Food Authenticity Test Method Explainers These free guides to food authenticity testing methods are now online. https://lnkd.in/eJeeghTD We are grateful to our UK government partners, Defra FSA and FSS, for suggesting and funding these guides. Our intent was to make something accessible and understandable to a typical food industry technical manager seeking to understand what their lab is offering. Have we hit the brief? Please let us know. We hope they are also useful for students, academics, and anyone else interested in understanding the black box behind laboratory Certificates of Analysis. FAN members from around the world receive regular updates and lots of free resources like these. Sign up for free at https://lnkd.in/e5c9TB8P

I gave my seminar on Foodomics – A new approach in food quality and safety yesterday. It didn't go well. I'm not sure why – maybe it was the tough questions from the professors, or the mistakes made by other presenters before me. Before my turn, I quickly searched online for new information. I ignored my approved work and presented something different. This was a mistake. I spoke from surface knowledge, not deep research. I felt angry at the panel. But this morning, I realized that the information wanted by the panel was in my approved report. I ignored it because I thought it wasn't impressive enough. But it would have led to a great presentation if I had used it. Ironically, my sister did very well with her simple seminar topic which she had complained about on several occasions but still had to do it. I've learned something important: The best solutions are often simple and ordinary. They don't need to be flashy or cool. There's great reward in following simple instructions from God and those who guide us. Trying to impress others can lead to failure. #Simple_instructions #Obedience #Seminar_presentation

This is Fascinating in the context of global food systems - much of which includes a focus on how to remove chemicals from food growing systems. The irony of having a suit of different chemicals then added in order to make snacks and confectionery (the highest total revenue category in the global food market) feels a bit mad.
There's not much to enjoy about this latest Bite Back research showing the heavy reliance of food manufacturing giants on unhealthy products. But what I did enjoy were the colourful descriptions used by the young activists to decry the status quo. The rather staid language often used by policy folk and academics (and often parroted by journalists like me) to describe 'unhealthy food environments' and 'portfolios skewed towards HFSS products' fails to capture the scandalous nature of the system we've created in a sufficiently emotive way. More "insurmountable flood of junk" (Alice) and "rainbow headache of cartoon sugar" (Luke) please! ✊ https://lnkd.in/enqjvGev
