FIA was honoured to be part of the 54th session of the Codex Committee on Food Additives (CCFA54) in Chengdu, China. This global gathering brought together food additive experts and regulators from across the world, providing an excellent platform for fruitful discussions. Key outcomes of the meeting include a commitment to strengthen the General Standard for Food Additives (GSFA) as the primary reference, minimising specific additive provisions in commodity standards, and ensuring alignment completion. During the event, the FIA Secretariat also initiated discussions with several industry associations, setting the stage for ongoing collaboration on shared objectives. In addition, while in Chengdu, FIA took advantage of the opportunity to convene our 2nd China squad meeting of the year. This in-person session brought together our members for dynamic discussions marked by robust engagement and meaningful exchanges. #Codex #FoodAdditives #Ingredients #Sweeteners #FoodSafety #China

Is the Coffee Industry Ready for the EUDR 🇪🇺 ? International Coffee Partners (ICP) recently called for delays to the EUDR, highlighting significant concerns, especially for smallholder farmers who produce 80% of the world's coffee. These farmers face high compliance costs and risk exclusion from the EU market. I see these challenges firsthand on a daily basis. It appears that both the EU and the industry have somewhat underestimated the effort and resources required across the supply chain to achieve EUDR compliance. While many companies have made significant investments and are well advanced in their traceability efforts, others need to accelerate their progress to ensure a smooth and inclusive transition, as a significant delay seems unlikely. Bigger players in the supply chain could play a key role in supporting smaller producers through this transition. If you're in the APAC region and want to discuss EUDR compliance or other industry topics, don't hesitate to reach out to me directly. Read more about the ICP's call for delays here: https://lnkd.in/gkyJ4b7w Koltiva will be attending the GCP Member Assembly 2024 in Amsterdam! ☕ If you're attending, feel free to connect with our team there as well. Quick fact about Japanese Food Regulations: (Start your week off right!) Earlier this year in April, the Juridisction of food standards (other than labeling) was transferred from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) to the Consumer Affairs Agency (CAA), in a move that confirmed the ongoing unification of Japanese Food Regulations (the CAA was already in charge of Labeling related matters since its establishment in 2009). Among such standards, the ones related to Food Additives stand out; rest assured however as the main web reference for such standards remain unchanged: https://lnkd.in/gTdpNGw4 The CAA website however do now provide guidance about them, as can been seen here: https://lnkd.in/gDjW7yHC This is a good start if you are left wondering what to check before entering Japan. With that being said, Japanese regulations can be daunting to navigate; Years of experience in this area and in-house resource systems have given us the necessary tools to assist you in ensuring that your products go through the Customs without bad surprises. Let us know if we can help!

Last Friday, I had the pleasure once again to talk about Food Contact Materials Regulations in the Latin America Region during the Food Contact Regulations North America 2024, an event organized by Chemical Watch news & events by Enhesa. This year, the event was held virtually, bringing together experts from around the globe. It was an honor to be among such distinguished professionals, all dedicated to fostering a deeper understanding of our regulatory landscape. During the event, I was able to share valuable insights, including: - Navigating Latin America's regulatory landscape: Insights into food contact regulations. - MERCOSUR: Overview and latest developments in food contact regulations. - Global differences: A global palette of food contact regulations compared with Latin America. Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the discussions. Together, we continue to build a comprehensive understanding of food contact regulations that ensures safety and compliance across the industry. (special thanks to Charmaine Russell, who always remembers my name and invites me to contribute with information regarding LATAM) #FoodContactRegulations #RegulatoryAffairs #LatinAmerica #MERCOSUR #GlobalCompliance #FoodSafety
