Why do Catholic non profits do everything they can to make their galas as boring as possible?
If we can just get a couple of big name speakers, at least 3 priests, and hopefully one bishop to offer words, everyone will feel the weight of the church authority TELLING them to give because that’s why Catholics open their wallets. We make the message all about us and our impact.
We need to flip this on its head. It’s not about you. All you do is connect the attendees of your gala to the individuals you’re helping. That’s it. The rest is noise.
Case and point: Angels Clinic, a pro-life women’s clinic in Dallas came to us in 2017 asking for help with their upcoming fundraiser.
Their budget was minuscule, even according to Catholic non profit standards.
There was only one priest and he didn’t even give a homily on the Catholic view of feminist. There were no big name speakers, and no bishops.
What we did instead was make the entire event a celebration of the women who Angels clinic had supported through the decision to choose life.
We used film, design, story telling, and the event planning gifting we’d developed in ministry to create an experience that connected the attendees intimately to the impact their dollars made on the lives of these brave women.
Result: 23% growth in revenue over the past year.
Given that galas for pro life ministries tend to account for 80% of the entire year budget, that is a huge deal.
Bottom line is this: if your fundraiser event could essentially be the same event as the group in the city a few miles away but with different lipstick, you’re probably investing in the wrong area.
The event experience, the message, and the creative around it are more important than the speaker.
If you’re doing a gala next year and feel that you could do better, I will personally garuntee you at least a 10% growth in rev or your money back if you hire us for strategy and creative.
Catch is you have to trust us. We’re not doing the same old same old. Pm me if you want to talk.
