Why fast food value menus may not be as great of a deal as they seem Fast-food chains have been promoting value menus in response to rising prices that initially deterred customers. McDonald's offers a $5 value meal with a choice of a McDouble cheeseburger or McChicken sandwich, small fries, 4-piece chicken nuggets, and a small soft drink. Taco Bell provides a $7 meal that includes two tacos, a five-layer burrito, chips with nacho cheese, and a medium drink, which is 55% cheaper than ordering individually. Burger King also has a $5 meal bundle with a choice of three burgers, chicken nuggets, and a drink. Despite the term "value," these meals might not offer significant savings, as ingredient prices are decreasing, meaning customers could still be paying the standard or higher prices.

Feed the foodies! In its best year yet, the restaurant biz saw $1.1 trillion in sales, according to the National Restaurant Association (up from $864 billion in pre-pandemic 2019). The WSJ showed that the average US household spent 53% of its food budget outside the home—the highest proportion ever! I’ve actually cut back on eating out, having learned to love cooking and baking during the stay-at-home years. I’m not an expert, but I’ve come a long way and I find spending time in the kitchen quite therapeutic. What do you think? Is this trend about convenience, the rise of “foodie” culture, a restriction rebellion, or something else? #trends2024 #restaurantindustry #fooddelivery #foodies #marketingtrends
