Did you know that the position of a word can change its meaning? Here’s one example: At the school fundraising BBQ, parents sold chicken tenders to customers in tasty wholemeal wraps. Because ‘tasty wholemeal wraps’ is placed next to ‘customers’ instead of ‘chicken tenders’, this sentence actually means that the customers are wearing the tasty wholemeal wraps and not the chicken tenders, which is clearly impossible. A better way to write this would be: At the school fundraising BBQ, parents sold chicken tenders in tasty wholemeal wraps to customers. This error, although fun, can lead to confusion, so before you dash off that email or school newsletter item, do a quick check to make sure you’re not misplacing any modifying words. I’ve written a longer article about this on my website for those of you who are interested. Link in comments. #WritingTipsAndTricks #Grammar #CopywriterForHire

Founder of Copia (YC W'16) | Forbes 30 Under 30 | Professional Keynote Speaker | Entrepreneur | Nelson Mandela Humanitarian Award Recipient | On a Mission to Impact 1B Lives by Solving the World’s Biggest Challenges

𝐻𝑢𝑛𝑔𝑒𝑟 𝑖𝑠𝑛’𝑡 𝑎 𝑠𝑐𝑎𝑟𝑐𝑖𝑡𝑦 𝑝𝑟𝑜𝑏𝑙𝑒𝑚; 𝑖𝑡’𝑠 𝑎 𝑙𝑜𝑔𝑖𝑠𝑡𝑖𝑐𝑠 𝑝𝑟𝑜𝑏𝑙𝑒𝑚. Many people ask, “How did we scale to solve this?” When I started my company, fewer than 10 people were in a garage in the Mission, feeding a million people with high-quality excess food. Today, the growth is mind-blowing. 🤯 Initially, we hired our drivers to deliver the food — it was costly, complex, and unsustainable for a lean startup. Then I thought, why build an Uber or DoorDash while building Copia? Why not leverage existing global logistics infrastructure? That’s precisely what we did. We created an API integration with DoorDash, allowing food providers to request surplus food pickups anywhere in the country. Licensed, insured drivers from DoorDash, Uber, and others now deliver high-quality food to those who need it most when they need it most. This strategy has enabled us to feed people across 300+ cities in North America. Partnerships with amazing companies like DoorDash have been game-changing for us. Check out this article on Project Dash shared by fellow University of California, Berkeley Cal Bear Tony Xu, CEO of DoorDash, who highlights collaboration in hunger alleviation initiatives. 6 years ago, we launched Project DASH, building a DoorDash for food banks. Thanks to our anti-hunger partners, more than 100 million meals have now been delivered via Project DASH. Building technology to solve real world problems is our ethos at DoorDash. When we get to solve these problems for those facing food insecurity in our communities, it's a privilege. Food Justice Advocate | Food Pantry Consultant | Bringing justice and dignity to the fight to end hunger
I've worked in multiple food pantries with a diverse collection of volunteers, who often entered my organizations under the assumption that people experiencing hunger do so because of their own choices or failures. Doing this work has given me valuable experience learning how to teach these volunteers to reevaluate their assumptions, and has also showed me the importance of developing a framework to facilitate this growth. Few people change their mind after a few conversations, but can slowly internalize and adopt ideas they are consistently exposed to. Here are some of the concepts I start with on the Who Deserves to Eat blog: https://lnkd.in/gm2QcSDb #whodeservestoeat #endhunger #foodjustice

When you wake up at 6 a.m. to start prepping food to deliver to WISEPlace for The Asian Aunties, trying to document your process with one phone so you can post on social media later for fundraising purposes, and checking your day job emails on the other phone because you are going to miss half the morning getting lunch assembled and delivered, you set the temperature to 350 instead of 400 and 15 minutes later you wonder why the Vietnamese Chicken Meatballs are not cooking up right. 🤦♀️ Today's lessons: 1. Have your coffee before multitasking. 2. Perhaps DON'T multitask. 3. 1/4 cup size meatballs need 25 minutes in 400 instead of 15. #dogood #feedpeople #fridayfocus
