Last week, the House of Representatives failed to stop the massive proposed cuts to AmeriCorps funding in 2026. The impact of those cuts would be devastating across the communities we work with, resulting in a loss of valuable resources for children and families. That’s why we need to work together now to secure a better outcome when decisions are finalized later this year or early next. Today, we’d like you to join us as we team up with Voices for National Service for a Virtual Day of Action. Elected officials need to hear that their constituents #Stand4Service and urge them to reject these devastating cuts and invest in AmeriCorps. Take action by clicking here ➡️ https://lnkd.in/ef4CyXXS to write an email to your representatives asking them to #Stand4Service. Your actions can make all the difference. 📢 Raise Your Voice for National Service! One thing is for certain: service to community and country is a nonpartisan issue. Since 2007, Transform Mid-Atlantic has managed and sub-granted scores of AmeriCorps VISTA projects and other AmeriCorps programs to campuses and community-based organizations throughout the region. We have collectively created and built the capacity of initiatives focused on eliminating poverty, food insecurity, health-related inequities while supporting innovative solutions to support community-led projects in rural and urban areas across the region. Earlier this summer, the Appropriations Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies Subcommittee of the U.S. House of Representatives announced a 64% cut to the Corporation for National and Community Service (AmeriCorps) in FY25, including the elimination of the AmeriCorps State & National and National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) Programs. As a proud grantee and partner of AmeriCorps, we strongly advocate not just for a reversal of the proposed reduction in federal spending on CNCS, but for increased support for national and community service programs in our region and beyond. Please stand with us and contact your elected representatives to save AmeriCorps by using resources curated by Voices for National Service! **Transform Mid-Atlantic is an independent and non-partisan 501(c)3 organization. The D.C. region needs to build 320,000 new homes this decade. It’s not close. Here’s my latest for The Washington Post: I analyzed the D.C. region’s housing production data from HAND, a housing nonprofit, and the Urban Institute, a public policy think tank. It shows we’re not close to reaching the target that regional lawmakers and housing experts set before the beginning of the decade. Here’s some of the data summarized in a map. For the last 14 years, Denny's has raised funds toward ending childhood hunger through the generosity of our guests, which has helped us provide $13.6 million to the nonprofit No Kid Hungry since 2011. It’s an amazing community effort and a need that we don’t take lightly – donations help remove barriers that prevent kids from getting the meals they need to succeed. But one company, alone, cannot solve this critical issue across our country; it takes collective action to drive change. That’s why I am honored to share that I have joined No Kid Hungry’s CEO Pledge to End Summer Hunger. Alongside incredible leaders across industries like Darin Harris, Danny Meyer, Barry McGowan and Charles Watson, CFE, we are joining forces to help create a future where every child has access to three nutritious meals, 365 days a year. By joining this pledge, we commit to mobilize our brands by investing dollars, raising awareness, and using our platforms to help increase the number of children receiving summer meals from 2.8 million to 30 million nationwide. This pledge is a call to action to lead by example. I hope that you’ll consider joining me in this important cause to ensure a brighter future for tomorrow’s leaders. #NoKidHungry #Dennys

I've been reflecting on the past year. The staff team has expanded and all of us have experienced major family crises but a moment of calm in a year that has steam-rollered through, was when three of our councillors laid a wreath at a memorial in our parish that overlooks a WW1 airfield. The weather was kind, a chinook flew by and we made our way back down the hill thoughtful from two young people's reading of war poems - old and new in the November gloom as a sunset splashed colour across the sky, and an air ambulance approached, it's blades beating like a drum in the silence. That day we were joined by Estelle who is now considering becoming a councillor. We need more residents to join us and help to shape the future of our growing parish. Ground level local government is a huge responsibility, requiring a level of service that is rarely rewarded and always challenging. I'm proud to be a part of our Parish Council, we are mercifully non-political, and the commitment and time given by our councillors is humbling. Our communication mission is to be open, listen and help find solutions and resolution, or the right person to speak to, and to work with residents and partner agencies to improve our Parish wherever possible. Some people have been very angry as a default point of contact, and often their first approach is combatative, usually because their issue feels either overwhelming, or they know they should have dealt with it much sooner - this can be very challenging, we all have our limits. When I think about the sacrifices made in times of conflict and war, the public service we give pales into insignificance, and as the old year closes and a new year approaches, I consider the continuing climate of uncertainty we have endured as a country for more than a decade. The yawning chasm growing between the 'haves' and the 'have nots' is prominent, as food banks and charities deal with new levels of poverty, and at higher levels of local governance - budgets are stretched tight and their ability to provide quality of service hampered by too many issues as a result of under-investment over the years, now demanding more and more resources and money. All of this makes moments of calm, and places where we can breathe so important. We need space, both physically and in our minds, it enables us to see the higher perspective, and make good choices. We need to hold a space for ourselves, to be aware and responsive. Open spaces such as parks, greens, recreation fields, riverside walks, woods and hillsides are all so vital to human communities and wildlife. We co-exist with nature. And when nourished nature gives back.
