The pressure within church for togetherness smothers bold, daring, world-changing action – like we see in the Book of Acts – and those who are courageous enough to engage it. I’m not one to sentimentalize the “early church.” The early church had its own problems, and we have ours. But scripture describes a Church that was strong, courageous, bold, and risk-taking. Do you see this kind of fervor in the average church-goer today? What has emerged is a church culture that is so nice, and so fixated on empathy that it organizes itself around the most immature, most dependent, most dysfunctional members. Who has hijacked the agenda in most of America’s churches? In my experience working with hundreds of church leaders from across the denominational spectrum, I’ve found that the least courageous, least responsible, and least emotionally and spiritually mature are often the ones who have taken most churches captive. Consider the polarization around political “extremes” in churches in this hour. Is it the spiritually mature who are championing this flight to the margins? What we do and who we do it for matters. Our actions are a direct reflection of where our heart is at, or said another way, our heart posture. Ask yourself this today. Chances are, we all have someone who provides us with inspiration. Inspiration that fuels us to do more and to keep going. "Two are better than one"—wisdom from Deuteronomy 32:30. The universal principle of multiplied results within relational harmony. But we all know the story in Genesis. The fall. Relationships broken. But they're restored today through Christ. As leaders, we ought to rely on our Lord AND one another. If you aren't seeing growth in your ministry or mission, it's likely due to a lack of partnership. Or a dysfunctional one. Either way, work on investing in that partnership. And you'll see incredible results. If you're a Visionary-type, try partnering with a Director-type (Type A). And vice-versa. A healthy SP-XP Partnership is often a common denominator among healthy, growing, sustainable churches nationwide. What's one thing holding you back from a better partnership? Prayer is being banned in public places. Cancel Culture is shutting down Christ-centric voices. Masses of people are "offended" by Scripture. The devaluing of life is rampant. There has been an utter and complete lack of accountability In Christian circles lately and we are now reaping what we have sown. How do we turn things around in this regard? "Let Your Kingdom Come, Let Your Will Be Done." That is an exciting prayer to pray. And it's a future we get to play a part in creating with God. It's the Vision to reach the lost. That's what gives church leaders motivation. And inspiration. Regeneration. But wisdom, counsel, and planning are needed, too. When connected, a God-given vision with a proven plan can move mountains. What mountains will you move to reach the lost in your city? He assures them that when the Chief Shepherd, Christ, returns, they will receive a "crown of glory." Peter then instructs younger members to submit to the elders, reinforcing the need for humility.
