Sam Altman Explains the Two Strategies for Startups Building on AI Assume the Model Won't Improve: Some startups build their products on the assumption that AI models will remain static. They focus on adding layers and features on top of existing models, optimizing for the current capabilities without expecting significant advancements. Bet on Rapid AI Progress: The other strategy assumes continuous, rapid improvement in AI models. Startups adopting this approach are excited about each new model release and build products that can leverage the anticipated leaps in AI capabilities. Altman suggests that most startups should bet on the latter strategy, where AI progress is expected to steamroll over anything that doesn't evolve with it.
