If the greenlight video system fails to deter people from committing acts of violence in front of their cameras, why would we assume audio recordings will do better? It’s time that we celebrate the efforts of credible messengers like Ray Winans, who work to cultivate genuine relationships with people at the center of violence and then leverage those connections to save lives, even beyond his designated CVI zones. Technology like ShotSpotter aids in detecting incidents, but it doesn't proactively prevent them. Investing in CVI initiatives underscores the invaluable work of Credible Messengers like Ray Winans and Dujuan Zoe Kennedy, who actively intervene to prevent violence, transcending the limitations of technology. https://lnkd.in/eDK65GRW #violenceprevention #detroit #detroitcity #bethechange #gunviolenceawareness #forcedetroit #gunviolence #communityviolenceintervention #gunviolenceprevention #detroitnews #detroitmichigan

“To break down the silos that exist between the different data sources, police forces and law enforcement agencies need to explore unified platforms that can integrate data from disparate systems such as surveillance video, number plate data, access control as well as computer-aided dispatch applications” – George Moawad, Country Manager for Oceania at Genetec. In a comprehensive analysis of police-involved shootings from 2015-2020, Dr. Julie Ward and her colleagues identified a staggering 10,300 incidents, resulting in approximately 5,900 deaths and 4,740 injuries. The study, which draws attention to the lack of a federal requirement for reporting police shootings, emphasizes the critical need for improved data collection and transparency. Without a standardized, mandatory reporting system, it remains challenging to fully understand the scope and impact of these shootings on communities across the United States. Dr. Ward's research serves as a call to action for policymakers and law enforcement agencies to prioritize the implementation of robust reporting mechanisms. By shedding light on this critical issue, the study contributes to the ongoing national conversation about police accountability and reform. Learn more about the research and its implications:

A short sided decision made by a person who is more interested in politics and appeasing activists then they are about public safety. In order to effectively protect a major city in todays age you must leverage technology to support the Police Department’s boots on the ground. Any system that provides the police with alerts to criminal/dangerous activity, leads or analytic information to better direct personnel, assists in the response to calls (EX: drones), or reduces Officers time in the station and help maximize their time in the field (i.e. AI draft report writing systems) should be used and used to their full capabilities. All systems have costs and if you want something for nothing you are foolish. However, if you value the safety of your community and community members you must properly fund your Law Enforcement agency and their technological needs. ShotSpotter has been proven to be effective in communities across the nation and it is a shame to see its us stopped in an an City where shootings and violence is unfortunately a common occurrence. #police #officer #officers #policeofficer #cop #cops #policedepartment #policechief #sheriff #deputy #copscountpolicematter #policingmatters #policing #technology #leadership International Association of Chiefs of Police Police Executive Research Forum Chicago Police Department Major Cities Chiefs Association FBI National Academy Associates, Inc. The impact of Robo Dog Units on reducing crime in a Dome City would depend on various factors, including the effectiveness of the technology, deployment strategy, and the overall crime landscape. While they can enhance surveillance, deterrence, and rapid response, it's challenging to provide a specific reduction percentage. The presence of such advanced units may deter certain types of crimes, but other factors like social programs, law enforcement policies, and community engagement also play vital roles in crime prevention. " There would be no human police presence within the Dome City. The Robo units will form a grid on each corner within the city adding security , surveillance and a faster response time towards any help a citizen may need.
