Like a lot of people, I found the Huberman Lab podcast in 2023 and couldn't stop listening. 🎤🎤 Andrew Huberman has an incredible ability to break down complex neuroscience 🔬🔬 studies and principles into actionable steps we can take to improve our health and relationships. 🧠 🧠 This podcast has also reminded me of how much I love science. I seriously can't shut up about this podcast (just ask my family). 👨👨👧👧 👨👨👧👧 I've enjoyed every episode, but some I didn't finish because they are long and, let's face it, non-billable. But on the episode with David Groggins, I really couldn't hit pause. And I feel compelled to share it with you, even though it was comparatively light on science for a Huberman Lab podcast episode. David Goggins is absolutely NO NONSENSE in this episode and really showcases the idea that we can learn all the tools and techniques to improve x, y or z aspects of our lives, but the only thing that will get you across that finish line (or help you make progress on your goals) is sheer will and gumption (and perhaps lots of cursing)! 💪 💪 💪 I have no idea if Groggins' message jives with the science of motivation, but it was a refreshing change from the "goal-setting" and "life hack" advice we see around this time of year. ✍✍. Don't get me wrong, I love goal setting and a good hack, but isn't following through on goals the hardest part? Perhaps a little no-nonsense, no excuses, tough love attitude can go a long way toward pushing that follow-through? I support allowing myself grace and kindness, but sometimes I do need a good kickstart to get going. #hubermanlab #andrewhuberman #goals #motivation #science
A new Huberman Lab episode on how to build immense inner strength with David Goggins is out now. David Goggins is a retired Navy SEAL, highly accomplished ultramarathoner, best-selling author, and one of the most influential public figures alive for embodying the ability to do hard things to better one’s mind every day regardless of the conditions. David explains how he mastered his inner dialogue to build extraordinary levels of discipline and mental and physical toughness. He describes how confronting his early hardships, including physical and mental abuse, learning disorders, and obesity, became a practice of deep and excruciating self-reflection — eventually allowing him to transmute those experiences into a superhuman work ethic. This conversation is a unique window into David Goggins’ process in that it focuses both on the underlying science and how David manages and directs his inner dialogue. In other words, it’s both a mechanistic exploration and a “how to” do it… and makes clear that everyone has to do the work for themselves. It’s a conversation that will inform and inspire anyone wondering how exactly to go about building discipline and confidence and reach their potential.

A brilliant podcast to start 2024 off with a bang... Huberman and Goggins discuss some pretty amazing things including the role of the brain's anterior mid-cingulate cortex (aMCC) - and how we can be leverage this for our own personal development. The aMCC is closely associated with willpower and the ability to face and overcome adversity. It's believed that the aMCC helps in maintaining focus and control in the face of distractions or discomfort, essential for completing difficult tasks. Interestingly, the aMCC demonstrates plasticity, meaning it can physically change and develop in response to experiences and activities. Engaging in tasks or activities that one finds difficult or unenjoyable is linked to the growth of this brain region. Simply: the more we step outside our comfort zones, the more these zones expand, making it progressively easier to embrace and overcome new challenges! The conversation about the aMCC starts around the 42-minute mark. If you find the time to listen to this segment, please let me know what you think. It’s a testament to how understanding our brain can be a game changer in personal growth.

Andrew Huberman Lab episode featuring David Goggins, a former Navy SEAL and an expert on building inner strength. Highlights how Goggins overcame his early hardships and developed a superhuman work ethic by mastering his inner dialogue and discipline. • Discipline is the key to achieving any goal, no matter how hard or impossible it seems. • Toughness is not a fixed trait, but a skill that can be learned and improved through constant practice and challenge. • Dialogue is the tool to control your mind and emotions, and to direct your focus and energy towards your purpose. 💡One idea for applying these insights to your career is to create a daily routine that pushes you out of your comfort zone and forces you to confront your fears and weaknesses. = headed to the gym to throw down with my tribe at Endorphin
