Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office reposted this
It is the honour of my life to be appointed as Foreign Secretary. A descendant of enslaved people. A black, working class man from Tottenham. A community which has never produced a Foreign Secretary before. This speaks to what a modern, multicultural Britain can be. Proudly internationalist. Determined to deliver for working people. And committed to building a better future for us all. Britain has enormous potential but the world faces huge challenges. More countries engaged in conflict than at any time since World War II. Rapidly changing technology. And a climate emergency. This government will reconnect Britain for our security and prosperity at home. What happens here in the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office is essential. Diplomacy matters. We will begin with a reset with Europe, on climate and with the global South. And a gear-shift when it comes to delivering on European security, global security and British growth. My story is a story of progress. Progress won by all those who fought for a better future. Together, let us fight for a better future once again. Change begins now.

We are all descended from slaves and slave owners alike. If you begin by being a victim then that's all you'll ever amount to be
Fulfil Starmer's pledge unless that was yet another broken promise - recognise Palestine as a state
Would love to know what you think a working class person is? Surely anyone with a job is working class. It’s not some label you give to people on lower incomes.
Just out of interest. 1. Roman Britain (43-410 AD): During the Roman occupation, some Britons were taken as slaves by the Romans and sold across the Empire. 2. Viking Raids (8th-11th centuries): Vikings conducted raids on Britain, capturing and enslaving people to be sold in slave markets across Europe and the Middle East. 3. Barbary Pirates (16th-19th centuries): Barbary pirates from North Africa captured thousands of Europeans, including Britons, and sold them into slavery in North Africa and the Ottoman Empire. 4. Indentured Servitude (17th-18th centuries): Many Britons, particularly the poor, were sent to the American colonies as indentured servants. Although not slaves, they endured harsh conditions and lacked personal freedom until their period of indenture ended. Always two sides to a story!!!
Hmm, a reset with Europe after Labour having been undecided over Brexit at a time when it mattered 🤷.
Israel’s Knesset has just legislated against Palestinian self-determination by denying the Palestinians their legitimate political rights to their own state. This is only a few days after our Foreign Secretary’s visit to Israel and Palestine. Our new government has made it clear in the Kings Speech that it will recognise a State of Palestine. This has previously been linked to a process taking place. Israel today has just slammed the door shut on any process. There is no longer any justification in delaying recognition. Britain should do so now, joining 146 other countries who have already done so.
Mate the political chaos of the last few years has done grievous damage to our international reputation. Regaining the respect we once enjoyed requires the return of consistent economic growth and the restoration of a stable, pragmatic, reliable government. And while Starmer understandably said little about Europe during the campaign, the reality is that eight years after Brexcrement, the path to national renewal will be much shorter if it involves a greatly strengthened relationship with Europe. Breaking down the barriers between us and the single market will help the economy… Moreover, a strengthened political and security relationship with Europe will help us weather the storms of war in Eastern Europe, turmoil in the Middle East, tension with China and, potentially, the challenge of a unilateralist America. The sooner we start, the better….
You were meant to do this - now make us all proud

3wAnother inspirational symbol of inclusivity by the UK for peer countries like France which choose fear and divide over curiosity, hard work and sophisticated inter-cultural navigation. Lots to do on the wars front though with high expectations regarding the recognition of Palestine. This Labour landsline win is a beacon of hope in dark Europe. Hopefully the UK will shine bright enough so that European countries soon realise how much they have been misled.
