This morning, our Executive Chairman, Bernard Fairman, appeared on the BBC Today programme to discuss the UK Government’s decision to accelerate infrastructure planning approvals. Bernard emphasised the crucial role modern infrastructure plays in advancing economic growth and shared insights on the energy transition: “Net zero will be driven by economics. By 2050, two-thirds of the world’s energy needs will be met by solar or wind.” To hear Bernard’s full perspective, listen here at 25:30: https://lnkd.in/gZaye5qz #Infrastructure #NetZero #EnergyTransition #UKGovernment

📣 🆕 EU Energy Ministers adopt conclusions on fast-tracking EU’s electricity grid infrastructure. “Today is a key milestone in the #energytransition. Ministers have delivered positive proposals on accelerating electricity grid investments in Europe at the transmission and distribution level. While #grids are essential for the energy transition, flexibility, encompassing #batterystorage and #demandresponse, are crucial for enabling grids to quickly adapt as infrastructure catches up. We regret that Ministers did not address the challenges for scaling up battery storage and other #flexibility solutions, with the same detail as they did for grid infrastructure.” - Walburga Hemetsberger, CEO, SolarPower Europe Read our full statement below and visit our flexibility-dedicated page to learn more 👇 https://lnkd.in/d93Bm3Dy #TTE #LetsFLEX #EU2024BE

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)’s announcement of a $2.2 billion investment in our nation's grid is welcome news. This important program will enhance grid resilience, support renewable energy growth, and lower energy costs while creating thousands of jobs. Not only do we need to alleviate congestion, but as the effects of climate change worsen, we need to protect transmission assets from extreme weather events. We applaud the #DOE for their commitment to protecting our grid. #SmartGrid #FiberOptics #EnergyTransition #GridCongestion #EnergyInnovation #SustainableEnergy #CleanEnergy #Gridefficiency #GridEnhancingTechnologies #GETs

📰 This week's top energy news story in The Informer: The Government launches its new #cleanpower action plan. 🍃 Setting out plans to achieve the target of clean power by 2030, Energy Secretary, Ed Miliband, said the measures would make Britain energy secure, protect consumers from energy price spikes, reindustrialise the country with thousands of skilled jobs, and tackle the climate crisis. The steps include cleaning up a “dysfunctional” grid system by prioritising the most important projects, speeding up planning decisions by empowering officers to prioritise critical energy infrastructure, and expanding the #CfD renewable auction process. 👉 Find out more about the Government's plans here: https://lnkd.in/eP9VsK25 💡 Stay informed with the latest #industrynews and developments in our new insights and media library: https://lnkd.in/eH5PmJFK #netzero #energyindustry #energyreform

Aberdeen was announced as the HQ for Great British Energy earlier this week. Opergy Scotland Managing Director, Isla Robb said: “It is perhaps unsurprising that GB Energy has ended up in Aberdeen, but the main thing is that it is in Scotland, that’s a positive and the fact that it is in Scotland three times – that’s even more positive. It is a wonder why though there is a need for three separate offices – will they each have different purposes? Will there end up being more throughout the UK? The more details we can get, the better, but there have undoubtedly been some encouraging initial steps and we look forward to seeing how things develop further in future.” #GreatBritishEnergy #NetZero #EnergyTransition #RenewableEnergy #GBEnergy
🤝 Aberdeen has been confirmed as the base for Great British Energy, with two smaller bases also to be established in Edinburgh and Glasgow. 🔊 Making the announcement, Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that GB Energy could "only really ever be based in on place in Scotland" with the future of British energy to be "powered, as it has been for decades by the talent and skills of the working people in the Granite City". 🔗 Read more on the announcement in the comments, as well as our chat with Isla Robb and Rachael Jennings on where they thought GB Energy should be based. #NetZero #EnergyTransition #GreatBritishEnergy #GBEnergy #RenewableEnergy

There's no doubt that we welcome all the very positive announcements about GB Energy, the newly established state-owned entity in the UK, which is set to be based in Aberdeen. However, there is still a pressing need for a clear plan on how and when the UK will enhance grid capacity to accommodate the integration of renewable sources like wind and solar energy, as well as the establishment of substantial battery storage infrastructure. The timeline for these critical developments remains disconcertingly vague. Will GB Energy deliver the goods, and more to the point, will it do so on time? https://lnkd.in/e6gEgR4t Tim Munn Louise McWatt Derek McGlashan Asish Mohanty MSc , B.Tech Andy Hurley MNI Fatima Tahir National Maritime Zero Emissions Ship Technology Association (ZESTAs) Cornwall Marine Network #RenewableEnergy #EnergyTransition #EnergyInfrastructure #UKEnergy #GreenEnergy

The new Government has passed its 100-day milestone. In this time, it has made considerable progress in helping to unlock Britain’s clean energy potential. This includes ending the de facto ban on onshore wind; increasing the budget for AR6; investing £22 billion in carbon capture, utilisation and storage; and announcing a new financing scheme for long duration energy storage. We’re glad to see these developments in such a short space of time, but the scale of the challenge ahead is huge. Our Mission Possible report recommends areas that the Government should focus on to make Britain a clean energy superpower. Follow the Government’s progress against our recommendations and see what is yet to be done in our tracker. 🖱️ https://lnkd.in/eNRP2_dp #CleanEnergy #NetZero #OnshoreWind #LDES #MissionPossible
