Thanks to a $72,500 grant from National Fish and Wildlife Foundation Small Watershed Grant program, Severn River Association, with partner Center for Watershed Protection, have been working on a watershed-wide analysis of all subwatersheds to rank their need for #restoration. Phase 1 has been complete, with the areas of greatest need identified. Phase 2 will be identifying specific projects that will improve the quality of the #river. The aim is to 1) develop a long-term #strategy for restoration action plan development and 2) conduct assessments and develop an action plan for the number one priority area. The project aims to create a comprehensive, long-term strategy for restoration projects. This strategy will rank subwatersheds based on restoration needs on the condition of their habitats, biotic integrity, water quality, pollutant loads, existing restoration efforts and availability of known #watershed champions. This assessment provides guidance for SRA’s future #protection and restoration efforts. Next, the focus shifts to actionable plans for a chosen priority subwatershed. Driven by data, existing plans, and community input, we are taking tangible steps for restoration. Based on this effort and in coordination with a Steering Committee, the top three priorities are: 1) Weems Creek, 2) Spa Creek, and 3) Picture Spring Branch. Over the next several years, SRA will be creating action plans to identify and prioritize specific restoration projects in the top ten priority subwatersheds. Using desktop and field assessments, we will identify restoration opportunities. With engagement from the community through #stakeholderengagement, we can create a detailed action plan covering project concepts, estimated costs and benefits, and a roadmap for implementation. SRA is currently working on this step for our top three priority subwatersheds. The final plan isn’t just a document; it’s a roadmap for implementing restoration projects that positively impact local water quality, habitats, and communities. "The #ChesapeakeBay region has permanently protected about 1.64 million acres of #land since 2010, putting it roughly on pace to meet its goal of preserving 2 million acres by 2025, according to figures from the #Chesapeake Bay Program. That brings the total amount of protected land in the Bay #watershed through 2022 to 9.1 million acres, or about 22% of its 41-million-acre total. #Conserving land is considered one of the best ways to protect #waterquality and natural #habitats from the continued pressure of #populationgrowth, and it has been a major objective of the state-federal Bay Program for decades. CA Wildfire Safety Advisory Board Recommendations - Implications for UVM Last week, the California Wildfire Safety Advisory Board unanimously adopted a report that contains numerous recommendations for protecting the people, property and environment of California from the risk of wildfires. Among those recommendations are numerous items with impact on the utility vegetation management industry. These recommendations include: - proposed revisions to current state regulations - enhanced / expanded tree planting for energy conservation - defensible space inspections - enhanced / expanded tree planting and replacement based on right tree / right place principles - technology enhancement . ..and much more. I recommend that those connected to the UVM industry in California review the report (copy attached) and be prepared for the changes to come. Each of these recommendations will undoubtedly follow a process that includes public and industry input, which will thereafter lead to modification of practices across the state. Those involved in the UVM industry outside of California (including especially fire-prone states) should consider this a harbinger of things to come. The Tulane Utility Vegetation Management Institute stands ready to support these initiatives and to assist in answering questions from interested parties.

This is more than likely bc PA is the last to ever do anything to help the planet. My husband and I for the past 3 years (me myself about 7yrs) have for example trying to get the simplest request done in lower burrell pa. Put an end to the catch and release fishing that injures and or kills numerous waterfowl a season. It gets worse every yr. Ppl call NJ the arm pit of America. yet if anyone would go there in the past... idk how long... they are putting us and Ohio to shame with cleaning up their ocean, lakes,&rivers. they even have most of it totally blocked off for bird nesting. They actually do press charges when a bird protected by the MBTA (which is 98%of all birds in the USA mind you) is injured by a human. The lake is a simple thing to keep clean. if they turned places like this listed in this article and the park in lower burrell pa into a sanctuary for wildlife (or birds alone) THEY WOULD MAKE SO SO MUCH REVENUE FOR THAT PARTICULAR AREA. PPL LOVE TO TRAVEL TO WILDLIFE SANCTUARIES. THEY ALSO SPEND MONEY WHILE VISITING. Obviously this is a geese "favorite location". Waterfowl eat ticks by the 1,000s. We need them around to help protect us and our dogs. It seems ppl either wait till the last minute, and it is almost to late..or to late, or ppl just don't care that they're not doing anything at all. we all need to act now. this is no time to play around or pretend this isn't happening. the litter in pa is gross and getting worse yr after yr. we still have the lowest littering fines out of almost any state. it's a joke. I watched an entire family toss all their McDonald's trash bags, cups and all right out their car windows infront of a cop car. do u think they pulled them over??? nope. why not? it's supposed to be a damn fine? but they're ticket your butt for going 10 miles over the speed limit when u have to use the restroom and your bladder is exploding? that is not right. if we can't get the law behind mother nature...what hope do we have. and teach your kids not to litter as well. it is going to end up hurting their world in the end. think about it. Shouldn’t the same rules apply to everyone? A shipyard in Upper Nyack, NY set up 3 illegal moorings seven years ago. When the Village demanded a permit, they sued (and still is suing) the village, wasting taxpayers dollars in a financial game of chicken. In an effort to circumvent the law, they have applied for an “after-the-fact permit” with the Army Corps of Engineers. The Upper Nyack Environmental Protection Fund obtained a copy of this permit and it is riddled with inaccuracies! Misrepresentation of Project Area Size: Permit says: 4.5 acres Actual size: 45 acres False representation made to NYS Dept of Costal Management Program: Permit checked “no” when asked if proposal will create a “Large physical change to a site within the costal area which will require the preparation of an environmental impact assessment? That is FALSE Permit check “no” when asked if proposal will create a “Physical alteration of more than two acres of land along the shoreline, land under water, or coastal waters?” That is FALSE Permit checked “no” when asked if proposed activity will “affect or be located in, on, or adjacent to any of the following: (i) Historic resource listed on the National or State Register of Historic Places?” That is FALSE AND SO MUCH MORE!
