AAVantgarde Bio is embarking on an exciting phase 1/2 clinical trial to treat retinitis pigmentosa associated with Usher syndrome type 1B. The groundbreaking procedure, carried out in Naples (Italy), was made possible by an innovative gene therapy platform developed by TIGEM in Pozzuoli, which enables the transfer of large genes. This cutting-edge technique, called “dual-AAV,” uses two AAV-like vectors, each carrying half of the genetic blueprint needed to create the therapeutic protein.
