New Journal of Health Communication publication alert! I've noted in previous posts about how Fors Marsh and HHS authors had jointly published results of the evaluation of HHS's We Can Do This (WCDT) #COVID-19 Public Education Campaign. The campaign evaluation was innovative in how we used both digital and traditional dose to assess probable campaign exposure and translated those results into behavior change, health impact, lives saved, the societal benefits. This recent publication is the second in a pair which helps show the probable #pathwayofchange from #beliefs to #behavior.
In an earlier article, we examined five belief scales: (1) importance of #COVID–19 #vaccines, (2) perceived benefits of COVID-19 #vaccination, (3) COVID-19 #vaccine concerns and risks, (4) normative beliefs about COVID-19 vaccination, and (5) perceptions of general vaccine safety and effectiveness, finding that all but #2 were significant predictors of COVID-19 vaccine uptake. I'll share links for the above in replies, all are #openaccess .
In the most recent article, we find that WCDT paid media dose was associated with a decrease in the concerns belief scale (#3) as well as increases in both the benefits (#2) and effectiveness (#5) scales. Taking the two articles together, we find that WCDT dose was associated with belief change (#3 and #5) that, in turn, was associated with vaccine uptake. https://lnkd.in/ezcG_7cV
These insights give us a sense of the likely logical progression of cause-and-effect from campaign exposure to belief change which, in turn, was associated with the increased likelihood of people to get vaccinated. These insights align with WCDT creative and the underlying theoretical framework. This helps to validate the government’s intentional, #evidence-based strategy to advance health via communications.
