As an educator and music curriculum creator, I empower parents and teachers to help children succeed through music
🎶 Why is music education crucial for young learners? Music isn’t just about playing notes—it’s a way to develop critical life skills. When children learn a song like Row, Row, Row Your Boat on the piano, they’re engaging far more than their fingers. They're strengthening their hand-eye coordination, building concentration, and, perhaps most importantly, enhancing their social-emotional skills. For teachers and principals, incorporating music into the curriculum can be transformative. Music fosters patience, teamwork, and creative problem-solving—skills that resonate beyond the classroom. When students play together or even practice alone, they’re learning resilience and developing confidence that will empower them in all subjects. 🎹 As educational leaders, how are we shaping future-ready students? Music could be the key. #MusicEducation #StudentSuccess #FutureReadyStudents https://lnkd.in/geDHf5HT

Techno and electro music producer, DJ, fine art photographer, retoucher, and a devoted Christian. My aim is to excel in my crafts and show kindness to others. In 2024, I'm determined to evolve and explore new horizons.
Here we are, diving back into the world of DJing for a week now. I've invested in a controller, installed Serato DJ Pro on my MacBook Air, and reignited the joy and necessity of mixing once again. It's like hitting the reset button, rediscovering the thrill of blending tracks from deck 1 to deck 2 and vice versa. It feels like shifting ideas from one hemisphere of the brain to the other, smoothly transitioning and generating new creative sparks. You can check out my mixes on Mixcloud Pro; I'll be regularly uploading techno mixes featuring various artists. 2024 has been an inspiring year, allowing me to break free from the inertia of five years of stagnant ideas. Filming a vlog every Sunday complements my photography pursuits, along with weekly retouching sessions and staying updated with current affairs. The rest of my time is dedicated to electronic music, manipulating knobs and sliders in harmony with the music, and getting lost in fresh ideas on my digital audio workstation, which fuels my passion. Photography, on the other hand, is about capturing moments and weaving stories with just a click of the shutter speed. The creative process in photography differs from music, yet both communities offer their unique charm. I've experienced disappointment in the photography realm, not in the act of capturing landscapes, but in the overwhelming marketing aspects in the software industry, not material. Many individuals within the professional photography sphere have let me down. It's a strange world, and I can only hope that one day they'll awaken from their slumber. https://lnkd.in/ewMA6BK4

DJ CULTURE WHY DO SOME DJS LOVE ROTARY MIXERS? When you step back from it, the distinction we make in the DJ world between mixers with rotary and linear faders can seem strange. After all, we’re essentially just talking about controlling a channel’s volume in a different way, right? Pushing a fader up and down versus twisting knob. Why do DJs have such strong preferences? While it’s true that both types of faders have basically the same function, the way that they perform that function can feel very different. Without fail, all of the DJs we spoke to said something along these lines. Dig a little deeper, and you see that rotary mixers appear to be built in a different spirit and with different aims, with the features they offer and the aesthetics they embody diverging from their linear counterparts. This rotary vs linear question really comes alive when you consider that the reasons some DJs dislike rotary mixes are the exact same reasons that some DJs love rotary mixers. Look back at the earliest days of club culture—this iconic photo of Larry Levan in the DJ booth at the Paradise Garage in New York, for example—and you’ll always see big, wide rotary mixers in the booth. Mixing in the spirit of such pioneers will appeal enormously to some DJs, while others might find the idea antiquated, instead valuing modern technology. The same goes for the relative simplicity of rotary mixers. Where some DJs see liberation in the limitation of not having a crossfader or FX, others see unnecessary restrictions. If you’re a DJ who values sound quality above all else, you’ll probably gravitate towards a rotary, whereas other DJs think about a mixer’s audio output among a range of features and considerations. The euphonia aims to bridge the gap between these two separate ways of seeing DJing. It’s a four-channel rotary mixer that combines the clarity of digital with the richness of analog, and in this respect it’s the first rotary mixer of its kind. WATCH THIS - https://lnkd.in/dk6AD2ec

Four fun lessons about innovation from music that I was discussing with my MBAs last week. Thought I'd share here in case others find a use for them! 1) Users can innovate your products in revolutionary ways: Grand Master Flash (e.g. 'The Wheels of Steel' https://lnkd.in/gE2U243j) and others transformed the Technics Technics SL-1200MK2 record player/turn table into a musical instrument in its own right and, in doing so, helped pioneer a new genre of music (hip hop). See Faulkner and Runde. "On the identity of technological objects and user innovations in function." Academy of Management Review 34.3 (2009): 442-462:4) https://lnkd.in/gi-sassP 2) Innovation often comes from recombination: The revolutionary use of 'sampling' in The Beastie Boy's 'Paul's Boutique' album (https://lnkd.in/gnfjKZfW) pushed this to its legal limits when released: https://lnkd.in/gvzFY6Ah For more on recombination and innovation, see Lee Fleming on the invention of HP's inkjet technology: https://lnkd.in/gysVamfB 3) To profit from innovation, you often have to inhibit imitators: Cher's "Believe" (https://lnkd.in/gAfZy-xS) pioneered the use of auto-tune in music production. Her producers tried to misdirect would-be imitators (e.g. 'we didn't use auto-tune to make the song) to increase lead-time and improve their ability to profit from innovation: https://lnkd.in/gbj8Q5iF For other approaches, see Sharapov & MacAulay's work on design mechanisms for innovation strategy: https://lnkd.in/gWGF6nMc 4) Credit for innovation can be difficult to assign. There is a fine line between inspiration and appropriation: Paul's Simon's pathbreaking "Graceland" album (https://lnkd.in/gV6FiDHC), which combines African and Western music, is an excellent example of both the power of recombination and the legal and ethical issues involved in navigating it: https://lnkd.in/gzmHNBzw

A wise man once told me "Any idiot can make life hard and unpleasant for themselves, making life easy and enjoyable takes a bit of effort." The sentiment, although originally referring to taking the time and effort to make fresh coffee instead of instant while camping, has stayed with me years later and is highly relevant to our industry. Which is why when a conference plenary has to go from 1, to 3, to 5 independent spaces (and back again) over the course of a week, while all being controlled from a central hub, we give it some forethought, some planning and testing, instead of just rocking up on the day and making do with instant coffee. It doesn't always take the flashiest gear, or the biggest console, it just takes the right tools for the job, the right people, a bit of thought and some effort. Audio pre-build for #AusCERT2024 #PayItForward in the studio today. A bit of effort that means that when the boxes roll out of the truck at 6am on show day we can spend less time fixing problems and more time drinking fresh espresso, the machine for which also goes in the truck, but thats a story for another time. #audio #liveevents #preproduction #LAcoustics #yamaha #coffee
