Remember, good security is premised on the principle that it’s not a matter of if, but when. Your workforce members can be your biggest asset defending against cyberattacks - if you enable them. Don’t wait to be notified. 👉Contact your bank to learn what specific programs they have to protect your accounts from imposters with your SSN. 👉Layered Defense: Always have security questions, PINs, and 2fa set up on important accounts. 👉Do your research. This is not an exhaustive list of defensive measures, only a starting point. No one is coming to protect you or your family in the cyberscape, it’s the proverbial “Wild West.” Take an account of all important aspects of your life associated with your SSN and research measures to protect them. Congratulations to FBI Newark, USAO District of New Jersey, as well as other assisting FBI field offices/Legats, USAOs and foreign partners on the Lockbit prosecution last week https://lnkd.in/eprsfawU. To add perspective for those who may not be familiar with the criminal investigative and prosecution process, it is simply a lot of work for those involved. Complex criminal cyber cases like this one, unlike their portrayal in movies, require extensive investigation, evidence collection, legal preparation, and subject identification. The process involves working with victims and partners, identifying the subjects, collecting evidence while meeting stringent legal thresholds, building a strong case which would pass muster in court in front of a jury, locating and safely apprehending the subjects, and subsequent prosecution. If the evidence or subject is overseas such as in this case, it becomes even more time-consuming and requires careful coordination. So great work there and I do certainly appreciate it.
