Is Back Surgery performed too often? Here is another great video from Dr. Eric Bricker explaining the issues with the frequency of back surgeries performed in certain areas. Why is there such variation? Are some surgeons more aggressive in performing surgery? In my opinion, this is a great argument for getting a second opinion. This is an elective surgery not emergency surgery. And, some estimates are that at least 50% of back surgeries are unnecessary. Then why are they performed? There are probably a number of reason, but I have to believe one of them is the cost, or money that can be made in performing them. They are often one of the highest costs to most health plans. https://lnkd.in/gZRDwnDY

What does the journey of recovery look like for a patient? I often explain to my patients that surgery is just half the battle. The remaining half is the post-surgical phase, where they begin their journey towards healing. A critical part of this journey involves attending physical therapy sessions. The objective of physical therapy is to restore patients to their pre-pain daily activities. While surgery aims to relieve pain, physical therapy plays a crucial role in the rehabilitation process. What are your objectives in the recovery journey, and how do you assist your patients in achieving them? #AxisSpine #JourneyToHealing #PhysicalRehab
