🤖 Google keeps upgrading Android Automotive 🆕 Google I/O conference has been the opportunity for Google to announce a new set of features for vehicles embedding Android Automotive like the ones from Volvo Cars, Renault Group, Ford Motor Company or Honda: 📺 Google Cast enabled: a great way to expand coverage for video apps without the need of native app in the car. Rivian will also benefit from it as it uses Android Automotive under the hood without Google services. 🎬 New entertainment apps: with Max (HBO) & Peacock SVOD services and the Angry Birds game coming on the Play Store. 👌 New quality tiers: to tag and differentiate the level of integration of the apps, from being adapted to both driving and parked mode to just be adapted for large screens regardless of the driving context, with the latter category aimed at accelerating the amount of compatible apps on the ecosystem by simplifying the porting of mobile/tablet apps into the car. 👨💻 New app categories accepted on the Play Store: web browsers, games and weather categories are soon to be opened more widely to developers while the messaging/audio call category will soon be opened in beta.
