Don't forget to tune in, later this week on the 12 March at 4 p.m. GMT: 👉https://lnkd.in/e6YW487W This #urbanOvation session on Retail Theft is the second one, led by Co-Chairs of the Future of Retail Forum, Linda Johansen-James-James and Chris Igwe. After a very successful discussion last year, it was felt that we should reassess what might have changed and what the impact of holiday sales has been as it relates to theft. More importantly, we felt that we should start to look at ways to address this issue, since neither government, nor law enforcement has laid out any specific plans to address what is a multi-billion-dollar annual loss for retailers, which is only getting bigger. Are landlords to blame as well, for not engaging with the problem to help find solutions, but leaving tenants to their own devises? This is feeling that has been expressed by retailers. We hope to come out with recommendations to be taken further across the industry. Join us, hear from experts, and contribute meaningfully to the conversation.

There are few publicly available sources of information on retail loss. For many years, the National Retail Security Survey (NRSS) has been the primary source and it has been invaluable in helping the public understand the challenges retailers face in maintaining safety and security in their stores. For the past three years, the Loss Prevention Research Council (LPRC) has compiled a database of shrink, incidents, and security measures as part of its American Retail Crime, Shrink, and Security (ARCSS) initiative. #LPRC https://lnkd.in/gggqTSZS

The landscape of retail security is facing a daunting challenge with the steady rise in organized retail crime (ORC). The National Retail Federation's 2022 Retail Security Survey paints a concerning picture: a significant 35.9 percent of retailers have reported an alarming increase in the violence of ORC offenses compared to 2021. This uptick in aggression marks a distressing trend in retail environments, where instances of theft and fraud are escalating not just in frequency but also in intensity. The perpetrators of these crimes are becoming increasingly bold and confrontational, posing a heightened risk to both employees and customers. As these criminal activities grow more sophisticated and violent, it's imperative for retailers to reassess and strengthen their security measures. This situation calls for a multifaceted approach, integrating advanced surveillance, robust employee training, and close collaboration with law enforcement agencies. Get a quote today!
