Nothing we posted today should be take as an excuse for President Trump’s rhetoric. Language, especially from a President, can drive action. A key value of Forward is treating people with respect and dignity. President Trump regularly engages in language that dehumanizes and disrespects individuals. We as a people should be better than that. But, remember, just because President Trump uses language to describe a policy that doesn’t live up to who we, as Americans, should be, that doesn’t mean the underlying policy is bad, or that it won’t help Americans. Divorce his language from his policy, and treat each as warranting its own response.

Why is Donald Trump So Highly Effective In His Pursuit Of Authoritarian Power. By disallowing decent and negative criticism he creates a power base of followers that fear to displeasure not only himself, but those that pledge allegiance to him. Trumps playbook of overcoming the law and twisting the truth by not providing the whole truth is not new and is used even today by self appointed dictators in Russia, China, Syria, North Korea, Venezuela, Cuba, etc. The methodology is simple , break down the legal system to delay or ignore and seed the courts with those justices that betray their oath of office. Secondly, reward those seeking rewards such as lobbyists, church leaders, right wing seditionists, those seeking political power that are incompetent and “others” that wish to buy in for favorable self results. Thirdly, focus hate on those having the least power to defend themselves to allow participation of prejudice against those people. Lastly, repeat the most outrageous lies over and over again to indoctrinate those to believe those lies and become one of your followers.

Love this post! Here’s the problem as I see it: Voting in one's best interest should mean supporting what benefits everyone in the nation—not just a temporary personal gain. True progress comes from policies that uplift all citizens, like the "rising tide lifts all boats" idea, where collective well-being leads to a stronger, healthier society for everyone. Prioritizing short-term gains, like hoping a corrupt leader will somehow benefit you personally, is like gambling with our shared future. It risks trading away fundamental rights and dignity for the mere possibility of a quick payoff. In the end, real progress and stability come from choosing what’s best for all, not just ourselves.

I'm canvassing in PA and had an hour long conversation with a Trump voter, who is a mom of two, and her husband, who is a Harris voter. 🙃 I know there are people who can’t understand how anyone could vote for this hateful human. I understand… at least from the people I’ve spoken to. One thing I hear over and over is how they find his words abhorrent and atrocious, but give him grace bc they believe he’ll do things that’ll better their lives. They can give gim grace because they have the luxury of ignoring his words and considering him just another obnoxious politician who says shitty things bc they’ve never been harmed by his small hearted, narcissistic hate. They can give him grace bc they don’t have the experience of being judged, discriminated, hated, threatened for simply existing as they are. They can give him grace bc they’ve never fought for their human rights or for those of others. They can give him grace bc the “policies” they’re voting for don’t threaten their personhood. They can give him grace bc they don’t feel unsafe from/with him. And that is a luxury that so many of us don’t have. 💛

Rekindling Hope in the Trump Era As Trump barrels forward dismembering and destroying long-held liberal American norms and democratic traditions and values that have been hard-fought for and legislated since the Civil War, it would be easy to become despondent and turn away from the political process. As a student of human nature, nothing that’s happening now really surprises me. Nor does anything Trump has done or will do mean that America is entering a long period of regression and the beginning of a generation of demagoguery. See my blog for a full discussion about hope as opposed to "optimism" and how human agency makes history at www.rabbijohnrosove.blog

There is evidence to suggest that body language matters in how others perceive us, and that symbolism is also important in creating an image. In 2016, Trump flew around in a private plane (with his name on the fuselage) to signal his wealth. Trump well understands that it is useful for someone to have power to project and use the trappings of power. He also intuitively understands something that social psychologist Stanley Milgram demonstrated long ago (https://lnkd.in/gdJjMM9a people obey authority. Which means that the trappings of authority can convey power and authority. This interesting piece shows how Trump has embraced these insights in his behavior. But as usual, the lessons extend much beyond Trump and politics to everyday life. Looking powerful can actually convey power and authority. #power #authority #influence #obedience #Milgramexperiment #Trump https://lnkd.in/gtHkg4S4

It’s very infrequent that I post on social media, but there are times and places in which voices must be raised, and also must be heard. In my work, the voices of the people I serve are loud and myriad. But they have had their ability to be heard proactively repressed, prostrated by decades or even centuries of purposeful, systematic, and ruinous exploitation foisted onto the world’s most vulnerable. We - Americans, Brits, and Europeans - have bled countries dry, and people still very much bleed. All too often, I mean this in its most literal sense. This violent inequity is therefore, tangibly, our collective responsibility to resolve; restitution is therefore, tangibly, owed for deliberately broken systems and structural disenfranchisement. I cannot speak on behalf of others, but I can say this. Trump's despotic and pre-meditated slew of executive orders, very much including his decision to withdraw from the WHO, is tantamount to murder through policy choice. People will die. And we aren’t talking about a dozen here, or a dozen there. We’re talking about hundreds of thousands of human lives that will be unnecessarily lost to or cut short by the New American Tyranny. I do not hyperbolise – this is the statistically certain outcome of Trump’s Order(s). Speaking as a fellow American, with blood on our collective hands, I hang my head in shame.
