Our team is growing! ☀ And we'd love to introduce you to one of our newest team members, Annie Roof! Annie will be serving with us as a Support Group Supervisor! She's been a FTF Support Group Leader since we launched our groups all those years ago! Learn a little about Annie: Annie has been passionate about serving children and families through foster care since she was a child. Growing up, her parents were foster parents, so her early experiences shaped her commitment to providing encouragement and support to foster families. She pursued a degree in Human Development and Family Science and became a Foster Home Coordinator for Delaware. After transitioning away from that position to be a stay-at-home mom, Annie and her husband, Blake, became foster parents in 2008. They now live in Maryland and have five children: three by birth, one adopted through foster care, and one currently in foster care. Join us in (officially) welcoming Annie to the FTF family! #FosterTheFamily #FosterTheFamilyUS #FosterTheFamilyNJ #FosterTheFamilyDC #FosterTheFamilyBaltimore #FosterTheFamilyGrandRapids #FosterTheFamilyFlorida #ThisIsFosterCare #FosterCare #ThisIsAdoption #Adoption #FosterCareSupport #FosterFamily #BeTheVillage #EveryoneCanDoSomething

May is Foster Care Awareness Month, an opportunity to advocate for the needs of children in care and empower them to reach their full potential. It's about ensuring they have access to essential services, educational opportunities, and the support they need to thrive. By investing in their well-being and development, we invest in the future of our communities. There are many ways to get involved and make a difference during Foster Care Awareness Month and beyond: •Support Foster Families: Offer assistance, encouragement, and resources to foster families in your community. •Advocate for Policy Changes: Advocate for policies that improve the foster care system and support children and families in need. •Volunteer: Volunteer your time with organizations that support children and youth in foster care, such as mentoring programs or advocacy groups. Let's honor the dedication of foster families and professionals who work tirelessly to make a positive difference in their lives. Together, we can build a brighter future for every child, ensuring they grow up in safe, loving, and supportive environments. #FosterCareAwarenessMonth #CelebrateFosterFamilies #EmpowerTheFuture

While many hope to Foster or Adopt infants, they represent merely a small portion of children in the Foster Care System. 💭 Often, these babies reunify with their Biological Families more quickly than other age groups, attributable to the primary goal of Foster Care being safe reunification. 💛 For this reason, when families look to Adopt infants, they may experience a more challenging process due to lengthier or extended waiting periods. 🙏 #LoftusVergariAndAssociates #LVA #Myths #FosterCareAwareness #AdoptionSupport

TITLE: Safe: A Memoir of Fatherhood, Foster Care, and the Risks We Take for Family AUTHOR: Mark Daley GENRE: Nonfiction, Memoir A heartrending and unforgettable memoir of an unlikely journey to parenthood through America’s broken foster care system. What does it take to keep a child safe? As a long-time strategist and activist fighting for better outcomes for foster children, Mark Daley thought he had the answer. But when Ethan and Logan, an adorable infant and a precocious toddler, entered into their lives, Mark and his husband Jason quickly realized they were not remotely prepared for the uncertainty and complication of foster parenting. Safe offers a deeply personal window into what happens when the universal longing for family crashes up against the unique madness and bureaucracy of a child protection system that often fails to consider the needs of the most vulnerable parties of all—the children themselves. Daley takes us on a roller coaster ride as he and Jason grapple with Ethan and Logan’s potential reunification with their biological family, learn brutal lessons about sacrifice, acceptance, and healing, and face the honest, heartbreaking, and sometimes hilarious challenges of becoming a parent at the intersection of intergenerational trauma, inadequate social support, and systemic issues of prejudice. If interested, you can order a copy of Safe: A Memoir of Fatherhood, Foster Care, and the Risks We Take for Family https://lnkd.in/e_7skHvJ and also check out Mark's website at markdaley.us! 📖 This book is part of the ongoing Connect Our Kids' Uncurated List of Foster Care Books series, where we bring awareness to books featuring foster care. Instead of staying with a family they may not know, some children stay with relatives or close family friends when placed into foster care. The kinship care providers must still be vetted by the state like normal foster families, but it allows children to stay within their family network with people who already know them well. Read more about how kinship care works on our blog! https://lnkd.in/eJs9_Byn
