Come celebrate the V European Day of Historic Gardens with us on April 26th! We invite you to take an interesting walk around Museum of King Jan III’s Palace at Wilanów, on April 26th (4:30 - 6 p.m): HISTORIC GARDENS AT THE THRESHOLD OF THE NEW CENTURIES: SANCTUARIES OF TRADITION OR EXPERIMENTAL FIELDS OF EXPLORATION? The beauty of historic gardens is the result of generations of work, united in their concern for the uniqueness of a place. However, an essential condition for the survival of even the most beautiful corners is their usefulness. Adapting to the needs of modern users forces a renegotiation of tradition. Should we choose historical plant species or those whose bloom lasts longer to please the eyes of walkers? Is it always the oldest that is most valuable? Should there be sporting opportunities in every park? We will look for answers to these challenging questions together on a walk through Wilanów's historic gardens. Josselyn Chau, Assistant Researcher, 團結香港基金 Our Hong Kong Foundation, wrote a commentary on 香港01 regarding revitalization of the Ex-Sham Shui Po Service Reservoir (the Reservoir) and protection of its unique cultural icon. Given the Development Bureau is reviewing the conservation and revitalization of the Reservoir, Josselyn recommended considering transformation of the Reservoir into an exhibition and performance venue. Since heritage is popular among the citizens, if arts elements can be included by the government for establishment of a site-specific theater, the heritage will be extra enthralling to visitors. Josselyn suggested the government to expand consultation with the arts sector for exploring how to retain the original appearance of the Reservoir while revitalizing it into a site which integrates culture, art, and history. Furthermore, its one-of-a-kind cultural feature are worthy of conservation, owing to a close connection between human and the environment is embodied. In addition to a one-time mega event, forming a deeper cultural ambience is one of the main factors that attracts tourists. Read the Article: https://bit.ly/4aXbImk
