As the FAFSA deadline looms, it’s crucial that students, particularly from low-income and mixed-status families, are encouraged to apply for this essential federal aid. Recent changes to the FAFSA application caused challenges for many. While the administration has addressed the issues, submissions are still down. We recently hosted a session for our members with The Education Trust policy analyst Sayda Martinez-Alvarado, where she shared information and resources for mixed-status families who are navigating this process. We couldn't agree more with Sayda: we can't let these funds go unused when they can make such a difference in the lives of our students. Join us in spreading the word and ensuring that no family misses out on these vital resources. Time is running out for the 2024 FAFSA—let's act now! https://lnkd.in/exrpm4WU Sadly, we have been unsuccessful in recent attempts to get assistance from The Mabon Trust led by our Rhondda MP - and, disappointingly in 2024 that negative outcome has arrived yet again. There you go - and with diminishing school budgets - education is obviously not a priority for our political forces. However, the Mabon Fund recommended some other funders including two sports bodies (World of Words is a literacy project!) and the National Lottery Community Fund (who do not support schemes operating in school time!). These recommendations just about sum up the scant disrespect to the wondrous work of World of Words. The harsh fact is that our decision makers show no interest. From Westminster, the Senedd and on to the local authority (elected or employed) there is negligence to a WOW programme that has offered major positives to so many local children and their families. We will keep on fighting but it is quite obvious that those within the Rhondda hierarchy will not be acknowledging or commending the industrious endeavour of www.worldofwords.education Sometimes it makes one think that all of the graft is fruitless but those thoughts are ephemeral because the long hours keeping things afloat are worthwhile when the positive responses of the children keep on keeping on! Viva WOW!
