(un)Fun Facts 🛑 According to the World Health Organization, medication adherence can have a more direct impact on patient outcomes than the specific treatment itself. 💡 Nonadherence can account for up to 50% of treatment failures, and up to 25% of hospitalizations each year in the US. 💡 Typically, adherence rates of 80% or more are needed for optimal therapeutic efficacy. BUT, it's estimated that adherence to chronic medications is around 50%. TLDR: We have a prescription drug pricing and accessibility problem in the US. And it's costing patients way more than money. We’re empowering our clients with solutions that prioritize access (home delivery), affordability (on and off-benefit pricing), simplicity (SMS reminders, auto-refill opt-in when applicable), and so much more to help move the needle and support medication adherence. What tools do you think are needed to help reduce the non-adherence problem?

Patient Assistance Programs (PAPs) play a crucial role in helping patients access the medications they need by bridging the gap between high prescription drug costs and patients' ability to pay. By providing free or discounted medications to eligible patients, PAPs can improve medication adherence and overall health outcomes, particularly for those with chronic conditions requiring long-term treatment. Mother | Founder @ Patiently | Bridging the gap between healthcare solutions and patient understanding | Medical Engineer
At #Patiently, we stand for reevaluating our healthcare priorities. Medication meant to save lives shouldn't be repurposed for non-essential uses by those who can merely afford it. This misuse not only undermines the value we place on human health but also exacerbates inequities within our healthcare system. The Ozempic Paradox The conversation around Ozempic—a diabetes medication now widely used for weight loss, thanks to endorsements by figures like half of Hollywood—has ignited a critical debate on ethics and equity in healthcare. 🍭The Dichotomy💉 There's a contrast between the affluent using Ozempic to lose weight and diabetic patients who struggle to access this essential medication. The demand driven by weight loss enthusiasts has inflated prices, making it even harder for those who #Medically need it to afford it. ⚖️Ethical and Equity Concerns The moral implications of turning a life-saving drug into a cosmetic tool. A gap in our healthcare system, where #PatientNeeds are often secondary to profit. 💊Patiently advocates for a healthcare landscape where access to life-saving medication is a fundamental right. 🚨The Ozempic phenomenon serves as a wake-up call, urging us to build a more equitable and just healthcare system. One where every patient's needs are met with the dignity and respect they deserve. ⏰It's time to prioritize people over profit and ensure that essential medications are accessible to all, not just a select few. As a health advocate, I believe in the importance of pharmacy in promoting wellness and patient care. Here are some key insights from the pharmacy perspective: - Pharmacists play a critical role in medication management, ensuring the right drug, dose, and administration method for patients. 💊 - Pharmacists provide valuable counseling on potential drug interactions, side effects, and lifestyle modifications to maximize treatment outcomes. 💡 - Pharmacy services are expanding beyond traditional roles, with pharmacists offering immunizations, chronic disease management, and medication therapy management. 🌟 Pharmacy is more than just dispensing medications; it's about empowering patients to lead healthier lives.
