Our General Partner Julia Hawkins took part in a fantastic panel at Slush today, on "Why Deep Tech Matters", with Kelly Chen and Katie King, PhD, moderated by Orla Browne at Dealroom.co. They discussed how deep tech can address critical challenges like healthcare –  a sector where the UK spends 11% of GDP vs the US spending of 17% but with hugely varying outcomes. As Julia highlighted, "One area I find very exciting is early detection and preventative healthcare. There is a huge opportunity in reducing Stage 4 cancer detection to stage 1, reducing the cost of treatment and improving the productivity of the population – a trillion-dollar opportunity." They also touched on how deep tech can address critical challenges in sustainability, overcome funding barriers; and the role regulators can play in supporting these innovative new companies. Last week, I was able to attend this event. Many of the topics discussed have really been staying with me. In full honesty, I was very hesitant about AI out of fear that we might lose our ability to make our own decisions or form our own opinions. This event really changed my perspective to acknowledge the opportunity that when used responsibly AI can open up the world to new innovation. Change is inevitable. We can choose to fight it or we can make sure we understand the change and work to ensure responsible implementation. Responsible AI is so important for our upcoming society. It can be an incredible tool to streamline redundant tasks, freeing up time to focus on more complex areas of a field. As demonstrated at the event, AI can be used for planning vacations, donating to athletes in real time, creating podcasts to educate on new topics or even be used in law firms find relevant case law. Thank you Big Kitty Labs for hosting and giving me much to research. I look forward to learning more!

Yesterday marked the founding edition of GenerationAI Conferences Conference, bringing together builders, wizards, and prophets shaping the future of AI! I'm super excited about what we've achieved and to share the little welcome deck we crafted with Mehdi Medjaoui. When sharing what brought me to it in three keywords, here's what came to me: "𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀" The conversations went beyond technical capabilities to explore how we can thoughtfully shape AI's trajectory together. "𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀" In every session and hallway chat, I witnessed genuine human connections being forged between the humans behind the technology - from developers and researchers to sci-fi authors and entrepreneurs. "𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗱" The energy and insights shared by our 20+ partner communities, 1,500+ attendees, 70+ speakers, and vibrant community partners far exceeded what we imagined for this first edition.
