Thanks for having me, brigkAIR: startup incubator for three-dimensional mobility and BDLI - Bundesverband der Deutschen Luft- und Raumfahrtindustrie e.V., and hosting the investor speed dating session that connected #startups and #investors of the #AdvancedAirMobility (#AAM) space. My three main learnings for the AAM space from #ILA and the investor session are: 1️⃣ AAM is much more than passenger applications and has vast potential to disrupt the aerospace and adjacent industries by offering platforms to test, implement and apply technological breakthroughs on a large scale. 2️⃣ Substantial funding has been flowing into the industry. Yet, the industry faces major regulatory, technological and economic risks as investment volume has declined and geographic focus is shifting. 3️⃣ There is uncertainty about timelines and speed, while the responsibility to advance the AAM ecosystem to exploit AAM’s full potential remains unclear. Owen Maclaren was a former test pilot and the designer of the Spitfire undercarriage... By the 60s he'd had a full and successful career as an aeronautical engineer. And then, in what would normally be the twilight of his career, he invented a game-changing product for parents. His daughter had married a Pan Am pilot and moved to the US. When his daughter visited with his first granddaughter he saw just how much of a struggle it was for the parents to travel using the pushchairs of the era. So he went into his stables, and using his knowledge of lightweight collapsable structures he designed the folding aluminium pushchair. This is a great video from the 70's looking at the man, his invention and the business he built around it. A great example of cross-industry invention. #invention #startups

Doesn't Blind Others Nearby It's no secret that the #headlights on new #cars are getting brighter. Now, even low-beam headlights can be #distracting to other drivers and pedestrians. Because adaptive headlights keep the bright lights off of #pedestrians and other drivers, it's easier for people walking to stay out of the way and for other #drivers to see where they're going. If there's an oncoming vehicle, the beam is partially blocked or turned off so that the other driver isn't blinded. Still, the rest of the road remains illuminated by bright light, which greatly improves their #visibility without drastically reducing yours. #distraction #technology #innovation #innovate #idea #startup

Swoop Aero goes into administration. Its clear the promises some drone startups are currently making are going to be difficult to deliver. Unfinished regulation and fast moving technological progress putting hardware out or date quickly. Difficult for a manufacturer where a good order book and shifting units is everything. I believe companies need to be agile on their mission and embedded with their end customer needs from the start.
