Eight years ago I set out on a journey to do the impossible. That’s what people said anyway: 🚫“you’ll never be able to do that” 🚫“why do you think it hasn’t been done before” 🚫“no one will support that” 🚫“the CAA won’t allow that” Well. Eight years later, guess what? We’re doing it. And the CAA are not only on board, but excited to see it too. Me and a small team, all volunteers, most of the original team have left, some have died. We’ve fought off bogus legal challenges, survived “the pandemic”, Russian invasion of Ukraine and subsequent war, the “cost of living crisis”, and many other minor or major problems in between. Set back after set back after set back… But, we’ve grown support. We’ve established relationships across the industry and gained the trust of the Aircraft Restoration Company, the best in the world at doing what they do. And they’ve taken on the task of rebuilding the aircraft, the first section of which is nearly complete. We’ve forged a team, small, with absolutely no one qualified to do what they’re doing on the team. But we’re doing it. Slowly? Maybe. In fact, definitely. But faster than those who aren’t doing it 💪 We’ve raised over ONE MILLION POUNDS. Let that sink in. We’re all volunteers, working in our spare time, and we’ve grossed over a million quid. Most small businesses wouldn’t do that in a lifetime. We are punching way above our weight. We’ve got a long way to go, of course we have. We’ve got approximately £6-7million to raise in total. But we’re doing it. We’re not thinking about it, we’re doing it. £1 at a time. We’ve got no corporate backing, of those we’ve tried (many!!) for whatever reason, they’re not interested. Running a charity is hard work. “Do this”, people say. So you do. “Ah but you should’ve done this”. So you do. “Yes but not like that”. “You need a base so we can come and see it”. So you set up a base. “Oooh that’s a bit far away”. !!!!!!!!!!! But we’re doing it. The first section is almost complete, and to the best of our knowledge it will be the first section of airworthy Typhoon (re)built anywhere since WWII, and 80% of it is original material as well. Next step, is the cockpit. We’ve got so many plans. 💥Apprenticeships. 💥School educational visits. 💥Keeping British manufacturing alive. 💥And a world tour when she’s airborne. But most important is the memorial aspect. Remembering those who made this aircraft what it was. Guess what it all comes down to? 💵Funding💵 You know where we are if you want to help rebuild this iconic aircraft that not only enabled D-Day but helped shorten the war, saving who knows how many lives. This aircraft will be a living, breathing, working and flying memorial to all those who played a part in its history. All we need is the funds to get it done, everything else is in place.
