Norway is ready to construct the world's first floating underwater tunnel; it will be the first-of-its-kind engineering wonder that will link Kristiansand and Trondheim. The tunnel is going to be 27 kilometers long, thereby making it one of the longest and most innovative structures in the transportation system. This would mean that the tunnel is going to be constructed under the sea, 400 meters deep. It ensures vehicles would pass safely and smoothly and withstand all the challenging underwater conditions. It would be a massive investment worth $40 billion for the infrastructure. By 2050, it is planned to complete the tunnel. Meticulous Planning for Arctic Construction We obtained all necessary permits for the construction of two facilities in Norilsk, which are crucial for improving the quality of life and enhancing scientific potential: an innovative educational complex for 1,100 children and a health clinic with a capacity of 1,000 visits per shift. Each project requires expert engineering surveys and unconventional design solutions. When starting a new construction project, the first step are engineering surveys. These surveys help gather all the important details about the natural environment and any human activities that might affect the site. The key objectives of the survey are to determine: ◼ the correct location for the structure ◼ the type of foundation that will ensure the safe operation of the structure throughout its life cycle ◼ the forecasted changes in conditions at the site during the structure’s operation. In some cases, these surveys are necessary for the renovation of existing facilities. A notable example is the new surveys at the oil depots of Taimyr Fuel Company, which are required due to upgrades to the buildings and changes in the locations of some previously planned structures. We are also working on a complete revamp of the tourist campsites in the region. Our engineering surveys are integral to creating a diagnostic system for monitoring buildings’ integrity and stability. New Greenpeace vessel design by Dykstra Naval Architects Following the success of the Greenpeace 58 meter sailing vessel “Rainbow Warrior III”, Greenpeace International has again teamed up with Dykstra Naval Architects for the groundbreaking design of a new 75m sailing vessel. Dykstra Naval Architects partnered with Longitude Engineering for the innovative system design and alternate fuels. Greenpeace International has selected Freire Shipyard - C.N.P.FREIRE, S.A from Vigo, Spain for this ambitious project after an exhaustive tender process owing to their ability and commitment to meeting the highest technical, environmental, sustainability, and human rights standards. We expect the new ship to start campaigning for a better world in 2027. At a time where the maritime industry is under increasing pressure to get its act together in terms of emissions reduction, the new ship will lead the way by showing how a smart combination of green technologies can power high seas shipping. With more than 2000 sqm of sails supporting energy regeneration on board, battery packs and solar panels, the new Greenpeace ship will optimally harness the power of the wind and the sun. A short update on #NOVATEK's Large-Tonnage Marine Structures ( #GBS-based #LNG trains) fabrication complex at #Belokamenka, Murmansk Region. Part of this appeared elsewhere several days ago but here's the full post from 26th July outlining the apparent sense of despair at the yard, now that #ArcticLNG2 #GBS2 has sailed away and all work on #GBS3 has apparently come to a stop. Is it over for #Belokamenka? They say that despite all efforts, the Centre for the Construction of Large-Tonnage Marine Structures in #Belokamenka will still be closed. More precisely, mothballed. We have already said that some workers have not had their contracts renewed. And recently information appeared that all workers employed on the project will leave the Centre by September. This applies to both regular workers and engineering staff. According to my information, only a small team of specialists will remain on the project, who will be engaged in mothballing the project. Those who were left out of work have already been offered positions in other #NOVATEK projects in other regions / territories. "Arctic Observer" visited #Belokamenka and assessed the "scale of desolation". Just a year ago, when the country's president Vladimir Putin was there (as a reminder, this happened on July 20, 2023), life around the centre for construction of large-tonnage marine structures was literally in full swing: special equipment was constantly on the move, a semi-legal, semi-underground spontaneous market was operating, workers were standing at bus stops waiting for the shift bus... And now, in a little over an hour, we met some 20 people, plus a few bored owners of small shops and cafes. Perhaps the only thing that remained unchanged is the broken asphalt, which, of course, no one has fixed, despite all the promises.
