DOES WORKING WITH PEOPLE MAKE YOU HAPPY ❓ The essence of a cashier's job is working with people. ✔ You have to deal with hundreds of customers to whom you at least have to say good morning, here you go, goodbye. There are also questions about prices, applications, discounts, vouchers. You can't even imagine. Formally speaking, relationships are of a secondary nature, because you do not know these people, and it is not normal to take everything to heart. However, there are moments when we advise each other, correct our thinking, and learn patience. 💡 My God, there's always a wait at the cash register. Just enough to start a chat. For some, going to the store is a ritual and the only form of socialization. They are mostly elderly people. To what I knew so far, I am adding lessons about consumer habits, character and mentality of our people, as well as foreigners. And the famous fact that the customer is always right, no matter how illogical some requests seem. You are there to take on the challenges and questions they throw at you. This work cannot be done by someone who is not prepared to listen carefully. Despite the existence of a self-service cash register, the cashier is the person most customers come to. The exchange of energy is incredible. ⚡ The dynamics of work are such that some enter and others leave, like on a conveyor belt. It seems patterned… Actually, not at all. Life is the best school. How do you experience working with people ❓ Does it make you happy ❓ Feel free to leave a comment. ✍ #sales #cashier #consumers #lifeschool #lessons #activelistening #communication #shopping

The Best compliment I receive from a customer. My best day while working as a cashier While working as a cashier at Precious Palm Royal Hotel Benin City, where I attended to customer inquiries, accepted payment for bookings, up-sold the hotel service to new and old customers, prepared sale reports, and prepared bank books for bank reconciliation statements. On a certain Saturday, while working, a female customer walks to the accounting office to register for the gym, this was how I responded to her. Henry; Good morning ( sist ), Customer; Good morning I already knew she wanted to register for the gym because I could remember her face as an old customer. I reply Henry; I guess you want to register for the gym, we have daily, weekly, and monthly registration, daily costs two thousand naira #2000, weekly costs ten thousand naira #10,000, and monthly registration costs twenty thousand naira #20,000. She; I am paying for daily gym Henry; ok are you paying with cash, point of sale POS, or bank transfer? She; Bank transfer Henry; ok Began to write the receipt and collect her payment which she did through bank transfer, immediately she made the transfer, showed, me, and sent the receipt to my phone on WhatsApp. The hotel management prevents a worker from bringing their phone to work and they are unwilling at that time to buy my department a phone. I hid it inside my bag so that security would not see it and take it, I took my phone into the hotel to make my job easy however After I was done writing the receipt I gave her the receipt and said; Henry; kindly write your names here as a sign ( I was pointing at the section she would sign and write her name ) She signed and gave me the receipt, so I cut out her receipt and handed it over to her before she left she said in a calm voice. She; You have a sweet voice. I smiled 😊 recklessly and told her to thank you, that was my best day in that hotel and I felt great throughout that day. However, I was hungry working on an empty stomach, and had less than three hundred naira #300 to buy food that couldn't afford food that would be ok for me. As an employer or customer learn to compliment employees because a lot of employees go through a lot and your nice words can pull them out of depression and sadness. How do you feel when a customer say nice words to you?

How is Professionalism and Accuracy in Customer Service Valued? Yesterday afternoon, I had an experience at a local store that highlighted the critical importance of #professionalism and accuracy in #customer #service, lessons that are incredibly relevant in any business, including accounting. After work, I visited the store to purchase some basic supplies and cosmetics. Notably, they had hired a new security guard who, although seemingly inexperienced, was a clear response to the rising concerns about theft due to the challenging #economic climate. I appreciated their effort to secure the store, but the real issue lay elsewhere. As I shopped, I kept a mental tally of my purchases, a habit from my #accounting background. However, when I reached the checkout, the cashier gave me a total that didn’t match my calculations. Upon reviewing the receipt, I noticed several #discrepancies: prices were inflated, and extra fees were added. When I asked the cashier to recalculate, he became defensive and refused to acknowledge the mistakes, even when I showed him the errors. Another attendant backed him up, insisting that the system was correct. As someone who had managed over 15 cashiers in a supermarket, I recognized what was happening and was disgusted by the lack of professionalism and #accountability. This experience underscored several key lessons: One; professionalism is paramount: every employee, from security to cashiers, reflects the business. Unprofessional behavior can severely damage a company's reputation. Secondly, accuracy and transparency: ensuring that pricing and transactions are accurate and transparent builds trust with customers. Mistakes, especially deliberate ones, erode that trust. Moreso, effective communication: Addressing customer concerns respectfully and professionally is crucial. Dismissing valid concerns only exacerbates the issue. Not to mention, a holistic approach to security: It’s not enough to focus solely on preventing theft. Internal controls and employee training are equally important to ensure that errors or intentional discrepancies do not occur. Irritated, I left my items at the counter and resolved not to return to that store. This incident serves as a powerful reminder that every aspect of customer service matters and that #businesses must strive for excellence in all areas. Has anyone else experienced similar situations? How do you ensure professionalism and accuracy in your workplace? #CustomerService #Professionalism #Accuracy #BusinessIntegrity #Accounting

7 Professional Tips for Money Handling Have your ever been in a situation where tills don’t balance at the end of your shift amongst your cashier team mates? If so, here are some strategies that helped me resolve this type of matters when I worked as a retail cashier. 🟣1. Count your till at the start of the shift. You might have one of your fellow cashiers telling you it’s not necessary to count your opening till. It’s a personal decision you will have to make for yourself. However, I found it helpful to count my till before the store opened. Reason being, I learned from experience that office supervisor/ manager can also make counting mistakes when put the tills into the register with their float money. 🟣2. Be calm and mindful as you complete your work. You want to be fully aware when you are performing transactions. 🟣3. If you received a huge cash payment, have the cashier beside you watch when you count the money. This practice can help you rebuff any suggestive comments about you making a counting error when you processed that large cash transaction. 🟣4. Make sure you operate your cash register with your login credentials only. If the office supervisor/ manager asks you any questions, you can will be in a better situation to answer their questions. Meaning, log off your register when you go on your breaks and when you end your shift before. 🟣5. If your till has a lot of money in it, follow the correct communication protocols and ask your manager/supervisor for “skim” (aka “pick”). 🔸*Skim: Refer to your “Cashier’s Best Practice Operations Manual”, or ask your supervisor what is the maximum amount of money your cash till should have in it when your working. 🔸Illustration: 🔸Float: $300 🔸Maximum cash permitted in your till: $1000.00. 🔸You check and realize that your till has: $2000.00 🔸You will need a skim of: A need a minimum of $300+ to $1000.00 removed from your till by the manager/supervisor. 🔸Note 1: Make a note of how much money is skimmed from your register so you can enter the amount when you reconcile your register at the end of the day. 🔸Note 2: Leave a written memo in your till. 🔸Tip: Count the money to be skimmed and put it aside for the manager/supervisor to recount. (…managers/supervisor can also make counting mistakes) 🟣6. If when you count your till at the end of shift and your register is not balancing, pull the till out of the register to see if a bill slipped into the cavity of the register.
