The mission of the firm I founded, Consero Solutions, is to empower local organizations to enrich communities and protect the environment. We do this by helping to develop organization strategies and processes, find $$$ to implement priorities, and manage projects and programs to achieve desired outcomes. We also know that donating to local non-profit organizations is an important part of empowerment; organizations cannot do their good work without money. If you're in the Sacramento region, I encourage you to donate to your favorite non-profit organizations as part of Big Day of Giving. If you live outside of the Sacramento region, pick today to make a donation to the organization at which a friend works or sign up to volunteer. Communities are built on kind words and incremental effort! Consero's staff picked non-profit organizations to support this year, featured below. Tomorrow, May 2nd, is the Big Day of Giving! This year, the Consero team is supporting four local nonprofits we love. Join us in donating and helping others – early giving is open: https://lnkd.in/g4H7Ywi 1) National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Yolo County – We’re supporting NAMI Yolo County because they make it possible for individuals who are struggling with their mental health and their families to find support, build community, and access mental health resources. Consero’s President, Petrea Marchand has been a long-term supporter of NAMI and served as the Board-appointed Treasurer and President of NAMI Yolo County between 2020-2022. 2) Progress Ranch Treatment Services for Children – We’re supporting Progress Ranch because they have offered safe refuge and mental health treatment for children in need for more than 45 years. Donations to Progress Ranch are funding children’s enrollment in enrichment opportunities, medical and dental needs, creation of an outdoor play space, and updates to the homes where children live and receive treatment. 3) Center for Land Based Learning – We’re supporting Center for Land-Based Learning and their work to help grow the next generation of farmers and land stewards and maintain an innovative mobile farmers market program to ensure our community has access to healthy foods. 4) International House Davis – We’re supporting International House Davis to make I-House inviting, welcoming, and comfortable as they shape a vibrant, diverse, and welcoming space promoting inclusion, belonging, and cultural learning.

Looking back on the last four years, we couldn’t have predicted how the pandemic changed all of our lives. It affected our economy in so many ways, especially the nonprofit sector. These critical organizations worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic while watching for profit businesses get support while nonprofits were rarely eligible for the funding. This is where the Michigan Nonprofit Relief Fund was brought to life. We sat down with Joan Gustafson, MNA’s External Affairs Officer, about how the program was built with the State of Michigan to be administered for nonprofits by nonprofits and how small nonprofits depend on contributions that were just not available during the pandemic. Learn more about Michigan nonprofits’ unwavering commitment to their communities by visiting weare501c3.org. Are you engaged in impactful mission-driven efforts? We encourage you to showcase your nonprofit work with the #WeAre501c3 hashtag.

Has the Giving Crisis Reached the Point of No Return? NO! But we have to pay attention.... "As nonprofits combat the giving crisis, a few key strategies are emerging. Organizations are working to build out their base of everyday donors with the goal of ensuring a continuous pipeline. To do that, fundraisers are working hard to build personal relationships to hold on to existing supporters, take advantage of donors’ own networks to attract new support, and rethink how to measure fundraising success." The rush of year-end giving has passed. But mission-driven impact continues 365 days a year! Now is the moment to steward existing donors, make plans that encourage monthly gifts, and inspire your supporters to consider a recurring gift. Many nonprofits have just worked hard to secure one-time EOY gifts, but many of those donors can prove tricky to retain. Two to three months after a one-time gift is a great time to promote monthly giving and secure consistent funding for your organization. Small but reliable monthly donations— even $5 —truly add up in the long run! Make a plan now to transition your messaging from thanks for past support to what additional change is possible with sustained support. Share specific programming goals for 2024 only achievable through monthly support. Sustaining mission impact takes year-round community action, not just seasonal spurts. Spend this January teeing up compelling recurring giving messaging. Because mission impact is a marathon, not a sprint. 🏃
