Today we are calling on the Australian Government to include truck drivers in its $10.8 million road safety campaign, following its 2024-25 Budget announcement.   Despite significant safety improvements in trucking—evidenced by a reduction in fatal crashes involving articulated trucks from 2003 to 2023—the National Truck Accident Research Centre’s 2024 report reveals new concerns.   The trucking industry has become much safer, but the NTARC 2.0 report highlights troubling trends, including increases in driver inattention, inappropriate speed and tailgating. This underscores the need for the campaign to address safety practices for both truck and car drivers.   We all need to be reminded to pay attention, slow down and stay back from the vehicle in front. This month, we wanted to cover the 3 most common safety mistakes in the #truckingindustry. This week, we focus on #speeding. Speeding is a leading cause of accidents on the road, and the #trucking industry is no exception. #Drivers often feel pressure to meet tight schedules and may be tempted to speed to save time. As we start work in the back ground for Pet Travel Safety Day 1st July I try to find more information that exists on pets being transported One way is real life case studies There is no data kept by the police or the government on accidents started by pets or involving pets Nor do hospitals keep these records (or if they do I've yet to find this information) No road data exists either on the real cost of this to the tax payer ie emergency services/hospital treatment etc So I rely on people telling me Have you been in an accident with a pet? where the pet caused the accident or injured someone in the vehicle?
