The Power of Understanding what Americans Are Going Through In the fourth quarter of 2008, the bottom fell out of the US car business. Sales declined by 37%. One automaker, Hyundai was in even deeper trouble- its sales fell by a staggering 41%. The brand suffered from a perception problem that it tried hard to address with a 100k-mile warranty, but this wasn't enough and in a market with few excessively cautious buyers any stigma would be punished. The industry's response to the downturn was to offer rebates and generous APRs, but Hyundai knew this wasn't going to be enough, so it went for bold and disruptive and changed the landscape. It understood what Americans were going through and that no one was going to purchase a car if they were concerned about their job security. To remove this massive barrier Hyundai introduced Assurance which allowed buyers to return their cars if they lost their jobs. In an instant, Hyundai leaped ahead of the market by understanding and solving a major problem Americans were facing. With one bold and decisive action, Hyundai shifted the perception of its brand and most significantly drove sales. The results were impressive. - By the end of 2009, Hyundai grew unit sales by 8%, in a market that declined by 21%, and by 2011 its market share had grown by 53%. - Mid-2009- Hyundai overtook Ford to take 4th place in the market based on unit sales The program was put together in just 37 days and the latest jobs report is released today at 8.30 am EST.

Three years ago, General Motors put out this ad, painting a picture of US catching up. Fast forward to today, and the topic is still hot. But here’s the thing—#EVs haven’t quite taken over the U.S. like they have in other parts of the world. So, what’s holding us back? Is it the charging infrastructure, the costs, or just old habits that die hard? It’s a mix of all these, but that doesn’t mean we can’t overcome them. Hasan Nergiz Alex Malouf Sal Jafar Katib Belkhodja We need to keep pushing the conversation forward and tackle these challenges head-on. The future is electric, and it’s time we make it happen. #EVs #Sustainability #ElectricVehicles

Training sounds like a "Dirty word" if there currently is none. Or if the approach is to train like we did in the 80's, 90's and 00's. Just because those methods are outdated and not as effective doesn't mean we just stop trying altogether. This is a great article that speaks about Creating that Culture of Learning and Development in the dealership!
The work that state and local associations like Greater New York Automobile Dealers Association and New York State Automobile Dealers Association is essential to keep the thousands of car dealerships educated and compliant. I know this first hand due to the partnership I experienced while working for the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) Academy. Yesterday I was honored to have an article published in their monthly publication titled "Fostering a Culture of Training and Development at Your Dealership" Thank you Mark Schienberg Jennifer Berman Lepurage for the hard work you do for us and the other Greater New York Dealers!

Yesterday I had the privilege of spending time with Triple Eight Racing, the group behind the Red Bull Ampol Racing team, to learn about how they have become one of the highest performers in their field. What I saw and heard was so simple, but so powerful: A shared vision – The Triple Eight Way, visible around the workshop. Making sure everyone understands their role in the team, and getting them excited to bring their best. Reflection to raise the bar – full-team debriefs after every race to understand what went well and how to improve, with nothing being too small to raise. High standards and attention to detail – an immaculate workshop, and uncompromising quality in all builds and repairs. Continuous improvement at all levels – with ideas and improvements coming from the workshop floor. Strong channels of communication within teams, between the workshop and engineers, and across all levels of the team. The relentless pursuit of high performance – deliberate practice by the pit crew, reviewing footage and sharing techniques across the team to shave fractions of seconds off tyre changes. Re-benchmarking performance to set new targets. None of these concepts are groundbreaking, rather it is the team’s ability to instil a culture where these qualities show up effortlessly and obviously in all aspects that sets them apart.

Its Friday ad time. This one completely passed me by - but I love it. I really don't like the experience of buying cars. I feel there is a lot of acting around it, and i just want a really straight discussion and honesty. A friend mine sold cars and she did really well by creating a more honest and straight forward experience for her customers, and they loved her for it, told their friends, and she made sure people walked away happy. The last car I bought, I talked to the sales person on the phone, and only went into the showroom to pay for the car. There was confusion from the salesman, but I was happy that i tried to minimize the experience of being "sold to". And many B2B customers have similar requirements, recent research has shown that people prefer a rep-free experience. Hyundai Motor Company (현대자동차) obviously realize buyers feel the same way, so they have changed it. This ad is from 2019 Superbowl, so its old, but its a good one. Jason Bateman plays a elevator assistant, bringing people to nightmare events in their lives - from root canal, to a vegan dinner party. And of course, car buying is on the list. The ad got major criticism from PeTA and Vegans generally for slagging off vegans. But otherwise it did really well. #adoftheweek #advertising https://lnkd.in/gptYb48U
