🔎 Colorado State University's insightful study into brain synapses and how they work has paved the way for potential treatments of neurological disorders. It gave several insights through its novel research method into synapse formation and function: 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐢𝐧 𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Synapses are primarily formed through a protein called Gephyrin. 𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭: Gephyrin plays a key role in the autonomous development of synapses, facilitating their formation without external guidance. 𝐌𝐮𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭: The study identified that several mutations in the Gephyrin protein are linked to various neurological disorders. 💊 These findings provide a deeper understanding of synaptic mechanisms and offer promising avenues for developing targeted treatments for neurological conditions. I'm honoured to proclaim that I successfully completed the University of Chicago’s "Understanding the Brain: The Neurobiology of Everyday Life" course, which was conducted by the known Dr.Peggy Mason 🧠 Throughout the course, I gained a lot on a number of important topics such as Neurological Diseases to Investigate the root causes and effects associated with different types of brain diseases, Neuroanatomy which helped to understand the intricate structure and organization of the nervous system, Neural Communication to recognise how information is analysed and transmitted by the neurons functioning collectively and most importantly analysing how pharmaceutical substances influence neurological functions and disorders. My understanding of these complex topics has been much strengthened by this course, the abundant information significantly improved the learning experience. #neurology #pharmacology #neuroanatomy #neurologicaldisorders #cognitivescience #universityofchicago

🧠 Did you know that oligodendrocytes (OLs) play a critical role in brain health? OLs produce myelin sheaths that protect axons, and recent research from the University of Zurich has found that OLs respond to electrical signals of axons firing by increasing glucose consumption. The trigger for this response? Potassium. Studies with genetically modified mice lacking the Kir4.1 potassium channel showed significant axon damage over time. An exciting step towards understanding neurological disorders! Check out the breakthrough findings here: Nature Neuroscience: https://lnkd.in/ejwP4Zp3 Psypost Article: https://lnkd.in/eFsUHnQB #neuroscience #brainhealth #research #multiplesclerosis #alzheimers #discovery
