Ever bought clothes you don’t like and hence barely wear? They end up sitting in your closet for years, some still with their tags? Start familiarising yourself with the 7 R’s of sustainable fashion, adapted from founding executive director of Fashion Takes Action, Kelly Drennan, and build a greener closet with us!
⬇️Reduce: Start decluttering! When we can streamline our closet and see what we own, we are more likely to wear the pieces we already have.
✅Reuse: There’s no shame in being an outfit repeater! However, if you are conscious about it, try thrifting pieces or even swapping clothes with friends, whichever works!
♻️Recycle: Your trash may be another's treasure – try donating to organisations, selling on Carousell or to Refash!
🔎Research: The key to the first 3 R’s is simply researching what suits YOU. Before buying, always mentally plan outfits you can potentially build with it!
🧩Repurpose: Unleash your creativity with your old pieces! Transform them into pouches, tote bags, cup holders and more. It's a fun and innovative way to give unwanted clothes a new life!
🔧Repair: Always try to repair your pieces before throwing them out! Particularly shoes 👟 More often than not, shoes can simply be fixed with a trusty glue.
💚Rent: For clothing items you’d wear for a one-time event (wedding, prom etc.), consider renting instead of buying! Not only can you contribute to sustainability, you can probably save lots of money as well!
Let's break the norm of fashion waste. Together, we can make a difference. Join us on this 7 R’s journey towards a more sustainable 2024!
