The first recipient of a USD 25,000 donation is a mangrove restoration project in Sierra Leone, chosen by our CEO Mathieu Philippe . Forty seven people have been rescued by the MT Ellora, around 70 NM from the Greek island of Rhodes.  The group includes 18 women and 3 children. The ship was alerted by the Greek coast guard at 1042 local time this morning to a vessel ‘in a difficult situation”.  The Master of the Ellora is now cooperating with the Greek authorities to bring the rescued ashore. Commenting on this morning’s rescue, Fractal Shipping’s CEO Mathieu Philippe, praised the efforts of the Master and crew of the Ellora for “saving the lives of innocents”. Philippe added: “I have always said shipping is a people’s business.  Today was just about people.  Our 47 guests and their wonderful hosts. For information, ships that are contacted by authorities are not given the choice when there is an SOS but they have to be reachable.  In other words not “dark fleet”.  We are Fractal.”

The MT Ellora is currently involved in the rescue of 47 people in the Mediterranean, around 70 nautical miles from the Greek island of Rhodes. We'll update with more details as soon as possible.
