🚀🌍 Exciting News! Today, I'm thrilled to announce the launch of our latest report shedding light on the Norwegian Oil Fund's voting practices concerning climate resolutions at oil and gas companies and the banks financing fossil fuels. In 2023, the Norwegian Oil Fund (Norges Bank Investment Management, NBIM) unfortunately fell short of supporting climate resolutions and instead backed climate-harmful strategies at some of the world's largest oil and gas companies and banks. Our analysis unveils crucial insights into the actions of one of the largest global investors, managing over $1.3tn assets under management (AUM). Despite being recognized one of the 'ten global financial actors that can accelerate the transition away from fossil fuels' the oil fund's voting patterns in 2023 raise concerns. Our report highlights how, despite its Climate Action Plan commitments, the fund continues to support industries hindering climate progress more than other, more progressive funds. Key findings from our report include: 🔍 In 2023, the oil fund voted in favour of only 7 of the 16 climate resolutions tabled at fossil fuel companies 🔍 Supported climate-harmful strategies for 9 out of 16 resolutions. 🔍 Backed climate-harmful strategies at all resolutions of four major oil and gas companies flagged as 'inadequate' in climate alignment. 🔍 Voted in favor of only 5 out of 17 climate resolutions at fossil fuel banks, while supporting climate-harmful strategies for 12 out of 17 resolutions. 🔍 Opposed resolutions advocating for the phase-out of financial support for new fossil fuel exploration at bank AGMs. This report serves as a vital wake-up call, urging the Norwegian Oil Fund to align its actions with its Climate Action Plan and leverage its shareholder influence to drive meaningful climate action. Let's advocate for responsible investment practices that pave the way for a sustainable future.
