Prep Now for HVAC Manufacturer Backlogs, Service Delays in 2025 An approaching shift in refrigerants for heat pumps and air-conditioning systems will have far-reaching implications for restaurants and retail operators, potentially delaying the availability of new equipment, replacement parts and access to the service providers needed to install or repair them. “In the months before a rule change like this, everybody starts to scramble to get ready,” says John Brightwell, regional project manager at facilities repair service provider MaintenX. “We’ve budgeted for this and have adjusted our equipment, tools and training to install and service the new systems; but if an end user hasn’t planned ahead and suddenly needs to replace a failed system next year, they may struggle.” https://lnkd.in/dMJ-TcFv Sponsored by MaintenX #ashrae #hvac #retail #Standard34 #Standard15 #refrigerant #refrigerants

The Basics of Water Cooled Chillers - HVAC Investigators Water-cooled chillers are a type of chiller commonly used in HVAC systems. Here are the basics of water-cooled chillers: 1. Function: Water-cooled chillers remove heat from a liquid coolant (typically water or a water-glycol mixture) to provide chilled water for air conditioning or process cooling applications. They operate on the principle of refrigeration, similar to other types of chillers. 2. Components: - Compressor: The compressor is the heart of the chiller and is responsible for compressing the refrigerant vapor, increasing its pressure and temperature. - Condenser: In water-cooled chillers, the condenser transfers heat from the refrigerant to a separate water loop. This water loop typically circulates through a cooling tower to dissipate heat into the atmosphere. - Evaporator: The evaporator absorbs heat from the chilled water loop, causing the refrigerant to evaporate. The chilled water is then circulated to the building or process being cooled. - Expansion Valve: The expansion valve regulates the flow of refrigerant into the evaporator, controlling the pressure and temperature of the refrigerant. 3. Cooling Tower: A cooling tower is an essential component of water-cooled chiller systems. It is used to reject heat from the condenser water loop to the atmosphere. The warm condenser water is pumped to the cooling tower, where it is sprayed over fill media. As air passes through the fill media, it evaporates a portion of the water, cooling the remaining water before it is returned to the condenser. 4. Applications: Water-cooled chillers are commonly used in large commercial and industrial applications where high cooling capacities are required. They are often preferred over air-cooled chillers in applications where space is limited or where noise restrictions apply. 5. Efficiency and Maintenance: Proper maintenance is crucial for ensuring the efficient operation of water-cooled chillers. Regular inspection, cleaning, and servicing of components such as condenser tubes, cooling tower fill, and water treatment systems are necessary to optimize performance and prevent issues such as fouling and corrosion. In summary, water-cooled chillers are an integral part of HVAC systems, providing efficient and reliable cooling for commercial and industrial applications. Understanding the basics of how water-cooled chillers work and their components is essential for HVAC professionals involved in the design, installation, operation, and maintenance of chiller systems. #WaterCooledChiller #HVAC #Chiller
