Managing Partner Michael Abrams recently had a Q&A with Contract Pharma, diving into new pharma vs. big pharma, and the future of M&A. Michael shared his perspective on new pharma versus big pharma in today's market, saying, "The idea that new and big pharma are competitors in the same race is, by and large, myth. Rather than competitive, the relationship between such companies has typically been synergistic." He also touched on the future of M&A, citing the pace of innovation, patent cliffs, and the Inflation Reduction Act as reasons to expect increased levels of M&A activity. 🧬🥼 A sign of things to come? With more and more companies ditching their R&D will we see other companies pick up on the thrown to kerb (sidewalk for my American friends) programmes? Obviously this specific programme from Crosswalk Therapeutics is led by former employees with knowledge of the specific products (of course advantageous) but surely others can be rehashed too? Either way - great business from Crosswalk, definitely to be commended. Unmute for the video narration! December 26th is my birthday. Like many people, I can get a bit introspective that day. I like to think about what I've done in the past, and what I intend for the future. Coming the day after Christmas and just five days before New Year's, it's like the introspection convergence. To keep focus, I like to ground my thoughts in something tangible. In this case, I spent the morning rehabbing an old axe that belonged to my wife's grandfather. It got me thinking about some of the #lifesciences companies I've worked at like Bioclinica, Phlexglobal, A PharmaLex Company, and physIQ. Each of these companies was at a major transition point, and I helped redefine them for growth and eventual acquisition. Of course, it all started with great products and even better people. No #marketing can make up for a lack of that when you have smart customers like #pharmaceutical companies. Bioclinica is now Clario, Phlexglobal is transitioning to PharmaLex under Cencora, and physIQ is becoming part or Prolaio. As those brands I helped build fade away, I know the value they bring will always be there. Just like the forged steel that was under all the rust on this axe head. Here's hoping everyone has a #purposeful and #productive 2024!
