Enterprise Architect as Executive Assistant/Consultant to the Board? One fine morning, I received a mail from a job portal with job title as 'EA to MD'. As an enterprise architecture professional, it was quite a surprise. I went through the JD and realized the misunderstanding of the recruiter between two very different job titles namely Enterprise Architect and Executive Assistant. But it triggered a thought about a possibility of a new role of Executive Assistant or Executive Consultant to the Board for Digital transformation. These engagements are long term, complex and inherently require complete support and involvement from the Board and key managerial positions. The sheer complexity and impact on the business operations & culture brings hesitation while entering in the new technology landscape. CIOs or CTOs (mostly not found in for SMBs) cannot provide hundred percent hand-holding required by the board in these types of engagements due do their day-to-day operations besides internal dynamics. This is where a certified Enterprise architect can fill the role of Executive assistant or consultant to the Board or MD. EA as EA/EC will bring the external perspective and expertise in Enterprise Architecture which is a foundation for digital transformation. EA as EA/EC can work as a strategic & technology mediator between board and EA consulting service providers and navigate the board in its digital transformation journey with confidence and achieve successful outcomes. Independent Directors play a key role in balancing corporate interests and corporate governance. But in the digital age, an independent director might be expected to oversee IT governance, cyber-security and ethical use of technology. Executive Assistant or Consultant will be of great help to independent directors for this new responsibility. Please do not hesitate to react, comment and share about your own experience or thought.
