Our Alentejo project is coming together beautifully—but this is far from an average project. Working with buildings constructed in the old traditional ways comes with its challenges. To give you some context: these buildings were designed with 1m-thick walls to act as a thermal barrier against the intense heat of dry summers and the biting cold of winter. This incredible heritage means we’ve had to get creative and innovative. By carving out wall space, introducing beams to counterbalance the structure, and insulating from the outside, we’re able to adapt while preserving the essence of these historic properties. Take this bedroom as an example—it’s the smallest room in the property, yet it doesn’t feel small. It feels right. Here’s why: By integrating the fitted headboard within the architecture, we maximised the available space, making room for a comfortable queen-size bed and fitted wardrobe/storage joinery. As a result this bedroom is cozy, functional, and beautifully balanced. Even as the smallest room in the property, I wouldn’t mind calling it my own! Creative design is powerful. Project Title: Elevated Modern Retreat in the Mountains Description: This architectural rendering showcases a modern, luxury retreat perched on the slopes of a rugged mountainous landscape. The design harmoniously blends contemporary minimalism with natural materials, creating a structure that feels both sophisticated and grounded in its environment. The outdoor spaces invite family gatherings, relaxation, and exploration of the scenic environment, making this retreat the perfect getaway for those seeking tranquility without compromising on modern luxury. Concept Inspired and Exterior Design This is an incredible contemporary design that is inspired by nature and creates a harmonious connection between the built environment and its natural surroundings. Key Features: Curved Architecture: The building's sinuous, flowing lines mimic the organic forms found in nature, such as the curves of palm trees and the rolling waves of the ocean. Integration of Greenery: Abundant greenery seamlessly integrates into the design, creating a lush, living facade. The use of plants, trees, and green walls softens the building's hard edges and brings nature indoors. Natural Materials: The use of wood, stone, and other natural materials reflects a commitment to sustainability and a connection to nature. It’s not often that Troldtekt acoustic panels get the opportunity to wear a custom pink colour – but Tengbom architectural firm is tickled pink by it🎨 The transformation project in Stockholm has now received architecture magazine Dezeen’s prestigious award for Sustainable interior of the year 2024. For the project Tengbom focused on reusing both materials and furniture in order to revitalise a former industrial space without the need for large amounts of new materials. All materials – including the new Troldtekt ceilings – are installed with visible screws, making them easy to dismantle and reuse later. The jury’s reasoning stated that: 🗣️"Tengbom’s self-designed office offers a fun and new perspective on what a sustainable interior can look like. The renovation is easily comparable to a brand new interior and shows that the reuse of materials doesn't have to compromise on aesthetics."
